The Hyundai R5 looking and feeling great today at test. Little different to what we are used to but a very easy and agile car to drive. Some great looking stages lay ahead of us starting with Shakedown tomorrow . Big thanks to our crew lead by 'Kiwi Don' who have been putting in the big hours.

Isn't it a car of Quentin Giordano serviced normally by Sebastien Loeb Racing?
thierryneuvilleProud to be part of this team @hmsgofficial. Today was the first time in my career I had a female as a chef mechanic. Massive responsibility which she managed so well. Focus on the race itself now ✊

What hits you is the big difference in power from those R5 cars. Seems the Citroen is way down compared to Skoda and Fiesta.

I hope it is really in the car and not in the driver. I saw Bergkvist during Barum15 and he was totally the fastest from all the 2WD guys and great to watch. Everybody must confirm.
You are right, but will not be the first driver to struggle at next category, while he was dominating in a smaller one.

I was answering Rallypers point about lack of torque after he saw the videos from various r5 cars.
I don't think that some NM difference among ds3 vs fiesta vs fabia are visible from videos. We are talking about small differences.
We know that skoda has a very good torque curve,as we know that psa cars are among the most powerfull.
From my experience on stages the PSA cars are very slow from 1st gear corners (on asphalt huge and very clearly visible difference). It may not be only torque related but also due to seemingly very low level of ALS compared to Škoda.
of course is the driver. At least at asphalt we have seen that psa cars are quite fast.
Ucci didn't won a rally power related, but a rally with corner after corner, more related to torque.
Abbring was faster from Princen with fabia till he bined it,at a rally with many 1st gear accelerations.
If you have any other explanation,i will be happy to listen.
imho at asphalt, psa are not at disadvantage, there are plenty examples.
Maybe more difficult to setup? probably.
Not reliable probably.
Not fast as fabia/fiesta at gravel? probably.

Latest car definitely sounds a bit raspier.
So the better torque of Princen with fabia didn't helped him.

Enginewise PSA cars are not that bad. Sure ALS is not that aggressive like in Ford or Skoda, and you even can't choose any level of it. So it makes the difference in slow corners. Fabia has most torque but it's not easy to see in the videos as it has also longest gears so that Nm difference is "lost" with gearing on slower sections, of course it helps on high gears.
For tarmac PSA cars are not much worse. Reliability is biggest problem, not easy to set-up also and difficult to drive, but with good driver for sure very fast. They are closes to race cars from all R5 - very direct on steering, reacting fast, etc. Which of course is not an advantage on gravel, fast gravel especially.
