just got this from espn
NASCAR and ESPN are working hard to ensure the future of Sprint Cup on UK TV, discussions are confidential, there is nothing more I can tell you other than that we are doing everything we can
mon 8th feb
nascar sprint cup series sky sports 4 one hour highlight show
thought sky wasnt interested in nascar.
There is ( and has been for a few years now since NASN went) been a small online community devoted to Nascar via steaming methods.
We use a forum to communicate and we have a chat room on racedays.
Google martinsautoracing and register.
No they don't!!!Quote:

The Daytona 500 will be live on Sky Sports on Sunday 14th February. The programme is scheduled to start at 6pm. There is no word regarding live coverage of the rest of the NASCAR Cup season as yet. Sky Sports recently secured the series highlights to be broadcast on Monday evenings after each event.
So..... new season, cars look superb, new rules, going to be great.
But.... what... not for us limeys the UK.
Sky is going to give us warm up highlights voiced over by the WiiMee Keith. I'm sure my human rights have been violated by not being able to watch LIVE NASCAR. Don't hold out any hope for ESPN, as they would have been pushing it by now to get the new subscribers in.
No Bud Shootout for us this Sunday, No Gatorades, and NO DAYTONA.
Crappy crap crap, feel better now, but it wont last too long.
According to a guy I just spoke to at Channel 5 they are not doing any Nascar at all! no American sport highlights which no doubt means the Drag racing will be missing too. This is tragic stuff :( utterly grim.
Lord Almighty this is fecking grim.
No highlights on 5 then.
Don't mind watching it off the PC/streaming, but I usually tape the highlights if it was a good race.
this could make sense sky get the daytona 500 live and the highlights espn get the rest of the season live and nascar now, both companys save money and both get nascar.
espn is the only channel that has not said they aint showing nascar.
Nothing makes sense......... it's all rubbish.Quote:

What do you mean by ESPN get the rest of the season, you talking about the change of networks after 16 races in the US. Somehow I don't think it will make any difference to us, ESPN will get no more new subscribers today than they would in May or June, so if they were going to show the races live, they would have made an announcement by now.
Need to all quickly find somewhere or somehow to watch the races on the web, lets focus or attention on this. TVU worked well for the 2008 shootout.
Just a thought, I know that all US bases in the UK have NASCAR streamed live to watch, so whose gonna drive over to one and ask, or somehow find a clever bod who knows how to tap into the US Forces SAT signal. These are just suggestions, if you get shot trying, dont come running to me ;)
perhaps sky are going to see how many viewers they get for daytona 500 and then make a decision on the rest of the season.
what i mean by espn is that channel 5 showed daytona 500 in 2007 or whenever it was then nasn showed the rest of season it could happen here but with sky and espn. espn are the only ones who havent said thier not showing it ch5, motors tv, eurosport all said no sky have the highlights and 500 espn and espn america havent said no yet
Anyone know of a good website for nascar torrents?. i was a member of racing-underground.com a long time ago but my account is now inactive!!!!!
Try this one.Watched the bud shoot out on it last night. Not perfect but better than none
http://www.myp2p.eu/competition.php?...ne=motorsports
for the more technically minded, i set this up on my TV using dual output from my PC. Worked a treat and as the resolution of my TV is less than my monitor it looks better!
Stream wise, this was reliable, good picture quality and sound in sync. No breakup or stream drops. Be prepared for endless American adverts!
When is the highlights show on sky of budshootout, ive checked my tv guide and cant see it listed.Saw the last 20 laps of the race, fell alseep and missed the start after having too many beers in afternoon watching wales being robbed in the rugby!! (well ok i mean totally outplayed lol) The adverts even for this short spell of viewing were really hard work tho.
the first showing is 6pm on Monday 8th on SS4. if you want it in HD, then it's 1pm on Tuesday 9th on SS2, or 3pm SS3
Thanks i was looking through the sun weekly tv guide,it shows Bass fishing for 6pm mon.

Two years of wowful SKY coverage has killed this sport in this country, they did not do their homework, and the studio team just did not have a clue about the sport I love.
Sorry to hear this...the same frustration I felt when the WRC was dropped from U.S. providers. Just keep in mind, its the same for everyone, I have to d/l captures of DTM and BTCC. You'd think with the multitude of international broadcast networks and hundreds of channels to choose from this wouldn't happen, but I guess we all still aren't 'living in the future' yet.
Couldn't agree more, I am however reluctantly going to get sky sports for one month just to get the Daytona 500 now it is actually listed as a live race, maybe ceremoniously burn the Sky box afterwards lol.Quote:

also remember if Sky hadn't shown it then we wouldn't have seen it at all- the way people go on at this forum anyone would think it was like Eurosports sometimes woeful coverage of CART/Indy Car- "the next car is hmmmm a red car, followed by a blue car" etc
I'm not pro Sky by any means but I don't get why people moan so endlessly about their coverage
Because put simply for me the whole point of watching American racing is to get the whole American experience not from an English perspective. I like to get the whole pre-race and post race coverage or at least some of it.
Given what they did, there was nothing wrong with the Sky coverage. They cut to the US commentators when they could. Bring it back Sky - the only thing I actually made the effort to watch on TV all year.
What is wrong with you people. As someone said, we are not in the futurte yet despite all the channels showing endless repeats of people doing up crap houses and making wine. FFS, how hard can it be.
the highlights were ok but you didnt get the feel for it. it will be even worse when they put a normal 4hr race into the 1 hour highlight.
still no word from espn there the only ones who havent said no yet.
Pretty funny overreaction. So wide of the mark it's untrue.Quote:

Set the ole Sky+ box to remind me about Daytona being on Sky at the weekend and noticed the series link option was available. Does this mean anything or nothing I wonder
I enjoyed the Sky coverage. I was a complete novice to NASCAR and I feel like I learnt the ropes with Keith as the two seasons progressed. I can see why the coverage would annoy hardened fans but for what is a minority sport in the UK, hardened NASCAR fans are definitely in a minority.Quote:

I dont care who has it as long as its on.
Skys coverage was pants but like you said was geared heavily towards noobs. I did find Keith a irratating git at times, why have a guy like that hosting NASCAR?, he knows eff all. Was intresting seeing his enthusiasmfor the sport grow though over the 2 yrs so i tip my hat to him for that.
And the endless questions like "why do cars have wheels?" got up my nose. I think the American coverage is pretty great. compare NASCAR to F1, F1 dont really try to explain things to viewers (has improved lately on the BBC) with things like the cut away car and the VT's showing what happens when an engine blows etc.
when sky show the daytona 500 live make sure you get the emails in to the studio the more emails they get the more pressure they will be under to show the rest of the season we need to get on their backs get your friends and any one you know to watch it even if its for 10 mins it will show up on the ratings for it
For what it's worth, in the bottom right hand corner of Sky's Motorsport website (http://www.skysports.com/motorsport) there is a poll on whether JJ will win his fifth Sprint Cup Championship in a row.
Maybe they will be measuring the response to this to understand more about the size of the UK NASCAR fanbase.
May be worthwhile going on there to vote
I totally understand why some hard core fans of NASCAR would hate Sky's coverage, but as a newbie to the sport 18 months ago, I have enjoyed the coverage and helped me understand (a wee bit anyway) NASCAR.
I'm glad we will see the Daytona 500, and pray that we will get live NASCAR coverage from somewhere on TV for the rest of the season.
it doesnt make sense why sky would want the daytona 500 when it would take up 90% of what sky would of paid for the whole season its one of the most expensive races in the world
MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR NAME DOWN ON http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nascar_on_tv_2010/ THE MORE PEOPLE SIGN IT THE MORE PRESSURE THEY WILL BE UNDER
just got this from sky
Thank you for your email regarding NASCAR 2010.
I am sorry to hear that you unhappy that we will not be showing the full season of NASCAR live.

are sky suggesting someone else beat them to the punch?
Sky suck big time,
all they think about is football (soccer)
Just look around for a good stream, plenty of them, just watch out for the numerous add breaks ;)
Lets not !Quote:

Remember the first few moments from the studio in 2008, carping on how great Dario Franrubbish was, and how we all wanted to watch him win the cup. Like NOT, me for one will not miss them.
looks like you'll get your wish- no-one is showing live NASCAR in the UK this year- happy now???Quote:
