Quite surprising piece of news... For some reason, I don't quite understand it. If Markkula had his back injured in Finland (which I don't remember hearing) then why didn't VW had a stand-in codriver ready for Mikkelsen? They had over two weeks to work on a contingency plan. Plus would have been quite an easy job to find someone as he nowdays has English notes. Maybe the injury became apparent just short time ago? Perhaps most top-level codrivers are busy working in gravel crews?
I'm also quite surprised whit this news. Yesterday Andreas was posting on his twitter account that they are ready for rally Germany and the shakedown on wednesday and now only 2 hours before the start that news about the back injury. Maybe they were hoping that Markkula will be OK, but the last medical check showed that he can't compete?Quote:
