As much as i enjoy watching Man City on skysports and lost and flash forward on sky 1 without nascar they wont be getting any subscription money from me. Have you any plans for watching races without sky coverage as its really a big worry.

I dont know if we will be at Rockingham, didnt go at all last year, Barry was quite ill for most of the year (problems with his joints and a large cyst on his thyroid) and he couldnt really stay out in the cold for long.

So, definitely not Sky Sports, so the other possibilities are Eurosport, Motors TV, ESPN or perhaps Rush HD. I only include Rush HD as they have shown highlights of NASCAR before in glorious lovely looking high definition. It would be fab if Eurosport got it and showed it on thier HD service but I don't think this is overly likely as they do show a lot of other things and NASCAR takes 4 hours+ of Sunday night prime time! Motors TV would no doubt love to show it but its going to be down to cost and as they havnt even shown Nationwide (or the Busch series as it was back then) for some time I hold out little hope of this happening. I think the best fit is with ESPN, hopefully in lovely glossy high def too. Otherwise it won't be on at all and have to resort to trying to find streams online and stuff, hardly ideal.
Another problem with MotorsTV is that they don't have more than a few regional variants. If I understand their website correctly, the same feed is used in most of Europe. That means they can't get the rights to anything with mainstream interest, since somebody is likely to have the exclusive right to it in one of the countries they broadcast to. They probably can't get NASCAR rights because of this. Eurosport used to have the same problems, but nowadays they seem to have a lot of regional variants, both of their main channel and Eurosport 2.Quote:

ESPN is the best bet- they show alot of US sports already so it ties in- looks like Sky is still showing IndyCar this year. as for Eurosport- they show alot of motorsport- Moto GP, Superbikes, WTCC- but I don't see them showing NASCAR
Yeah, I think Sky tend to go more with UK driver interest rather than general sporting interest when it comes to thier motorsport coverage, after all, thats why they signed up NASCAR in the first place, because Dario Franchitti was signed to Ganassi, as we now know that didnt pan out but I think Sky did get a loyal regular audience for NASCAR. But in the face of "ball games" which tend to attract a bigger, shall we say less knowledgeable, more "casual" audience which gets Sky more advertising revenue combined with a lack of UK interest its hardly a surprise that Sky dropped NASCAR, plus it does take up a big chunk of time on Sunday evening prime time.Quote:

Well at least theres a glimer of hope there.
Being a naturaly pessimistic (some would say grumpy lol) person,i'm assuming there will be no coverage here this season at least.
So realistically what are the options and can anyone offer help/advice.
Ive been thinking:
1 Online streams- but seem to think thers a problem and broadcasters on sites like JTV have been closed down,i noticed towards end of last season a few disappeared when trying to watch nationwide races.If there are some ways to watch online please can someone p.m me please.
2. Is nascar still being broadcast in other european countries and,if so,can i buy a satellite dish to pick up these broadcasts? That sounds way too easy so i imagine it cant be done.
3. Maybe there is a really kind american who would record onto dvd all the weekends races and post to me by some express delivery all the race action for a reasonable fee.I guess by avoiding nascar.com and cancelling a few other subscriptions i can watch the races without knowing the winner in advance.
I'm lucky enough to be going to the cali and vegas races and really hope i can get something in place by bristol.I'll be devastated tho to miss speedweeks.

just phoned sky to cancel sky sports as i got it (mainly) for the motorsport but with nascar gone, no a1gp, no world motorsport and irl being a predominantly road course series(which frankly is no better than f1 which i can get for free on the bbc).
the operator was stunned to know that they hadn't got nascar as he also watches it but sky's brass( as normal) seem to be slow in filtering information to their phone staff.(he is probably on the phone now to find out if it's true).
if espn do get it, it's still unlikely that i'll subscribe as they have little other motorsport.

I cancelled Sky Sports straight after the NASCAR season finalle, with a view to re-subscribing if they got NASCAR back, as they havnt I won't be re-subscribing, I like IRL but its impossible to justify the cost for IRL only.Quote:

Not looking good is it guys. Cant beleive that NASCAR still havent got their act together over TV deals the last couple of years, what a joke.
Not got act together because the UK is such a fringe market - shame.
Assume all the US TV rights were in place long ago.
Yes the UK is a fringe market but you would think someone at NASCAR would like to see the sport grow outside the US.
Watching the Daytona 500 on a grainy internet stream will be sickening.

I got into Nascar through watching the Busch series on motors tv. Used to enjoy some of the live feeds with Carlton Kirby doing bits of commentary and the Highlites show every Monday (remember the Busch and Truex battles). Then eventually got the Sprint series on Nasn which was great with a full American coverage with full live in car telemetry during the American breaks.
I've never ever been happy with the Sky coverage which missed out on the whole feel of build up show and basic ignorance on Nascar in general. I couldn't afford it anyway and threatened complete sky cancellation so they gave me a Sky+ box and I got the Channel 5 highlights and sometimes watched streamed races. With the COT car I've started to loose interest and just get frustrated with motorsport coverage in the UK as a whole. Wish we could just get the Speed channel but that will never happen.
Generally I've got more interested in tinkering with cars now so F*ck it anyway. If the powers that be stop me doing that then I'll just emigrate to the US and I'll be sorted. I was however hoping to get the Daytona race as a one off because it is still a great spectacle , sad sad days.
I find it actually quite draining going through this every year not knowing whats going on so whats the point, sorry turning into a rant lol.
IMHO the entertainment value of the racing in the past two years (since the COT) has been poor so im not that bothered. Im saying that as a person thats been 6 events at Pocono, Indy, Michigan and Bristol
The Nationwide Series will be shown on ESPN America. ESPN are also try to secure the rights for Sprint Cup. Sky Sports will be showing Delayed Highlights on Monday i believe.

Now I'm emotionally involved with this once again, just discovered theres an hour show on Sky Sports 4 on the 8th that is no doubt highlights of the Bud shootout. What concerns me is does that mean there won't be highlights on Channel 5 any more? I can't afford Sky Sports :( would consider Espn if there was enough Nascar on there.

An hour long highlights show for the 500 would be pointless. Those shows alway miss out most of the major talking points of the race!.
