btw, sound of VW is completely different from e.g. Citroen. Why? I don't think it's result of sound tuning engineers ;)

Most of the sound is caused by exhaust, especially when all comparable engines are of same kind - with no Subaru boxer around. Or do You mean the anti-lag?
