Has Rallycross always been this incestuous_
I'm sorry but it sure seems remarkable that the teenage sons of a whole bunch of team principles are all “discovered“ to be Whirled Champignonskit material...
Sucked when Malconm Wilson did it. Seems to be the norm in rallycross...
Why do I not get interested in any race where its some child driving---children can't afford this so the fact they do means forunes are being poured over little boys head who haven't proven anything except a relationship to somebody who was something..
This stuff taints what they did..
Marcus, son of Finnish Rally Champion Ulf Grönholm.
Yes, at least the half of all racedrivers has a family background in motorsport. Some fathers/mothers/whoever were more successful, others less. Otherwise there wouldn't be so much talents...
Gronholm plays down expectations on son's World Rallycross season
http://www.autosport.com/news/report...x-expectations
Talentis not genetic..It cannot be inherited..Money and connections are easily "inherited"
Point forgotten is the its not that all these old guys who I respected are helping in some way their own sons--it is that they are electing to place their sons into seats fighting for the WORLD championship..when obviously no 17 year old can be imagined to have earned much of anything in life yet..Much less to "jump ahead of the class" with no real test---except paternity test...
In makes a complete farce that the title winner is Champion of the World.
Instead a win becomes "Merely a winner of a little incestuous gang of friends.." who have been gifted millions of dollars of resource NOT because what they did, but what Daddy did..
Yeah other car motorsport is infested with this..
I pay no attention to other CAR motorsports...because of it.
In Rallycross it is a bit extreme at the moment though. Johan Kristoffersen, Robin Larsson, Hansen & Hansen, Eriksson, Grönholm are all young sons of prominent ex-rallycrossers. Of course Mathias Ekström and Liam Doran are also sons of rallycrossers, while mediocore talent Anton Marklund drives in his fathers team...
The Euro RX looks more interesting this year in my opinion. A variety of cars and interesting drivers. Hopefully they actually get some coverage this year as the heats and finals are now seperated from the world rx.
Eriksson, Hansen and Hansen are proven to be pretty good though (although no doubt daddy's wallet plays a part), Larsson and Kristoffersen are also solid RX drivers. Just because someone's dad did a sport does not mean that they are no good. Take Valentino Rossi, his dad was a motorcycle racer. Colin McRae, his dad was a rally driver. Both of these have surpassed the achievements of their fathers. Yes there are a lot of rallycross drivers who followed their father into the sport, but arguably that's because it's not as straightforward or easy to get into as other forms. My nearest kart circuit is 20 minutes drive, the nearest car circuit is 2 hours, my nearest rallycross circuit is 5 hours away. I can name loads of race circuits in the UK but can only name 4 RX circuits, so clearly it's just not as widespread a sport.
The Solberg Clan is also coming into motorsports higher levels.
Pontus, Oscar and Oliver are climbing the ladder!
I did not say anything about their quality as a rallycross driver. It is just weird that the drivers I saw racing in the '90s and '00s now have their sons racing. Also interesting to see that all the sons (except Doran) are Swedes. Perhaps it has something to do with their culture/interest at the moment.
Not entirely correct. Marcus is half Swedish (or Finland Swede if you wish) since his mother is Swedish so that would make his son at least 1/4 Swedish.
So Finnish nationality but with a Swedish heritage.
Topi announced as driving alongside Ekstrom at EKSRX. Sounds like Ekstrom himself won't be doing every round, hopefully they get someone decent to sit in for him when he can't make it.

And in a 2.0 MINI !! :D
Interesting, although I had a feeling that the whole SDRX team hadn't quite clicked. Guy Wilks obviously did well at Lydden last year with the 1.6, but JRM will need to dial out the understeer if Liam s going to have any hope of being near the front. Hopefully this also doesn't scupper any chance of Wilks getting another cameo appearance, would be nice to have some Brits to support when I go to Lydden.
Dont suppose the Mini will be ready for Lydden this weekend ? Will Doran be there in his DS3 ?
Edit: He's in the C4.

No real surprises there, the red/white colour scheme is the Oldsberg standard livery.
Yep, and I think the 'highlights' (which is usually a catch up on the heats-sorry, 'qualifying', and then the semis and finals in full) will be on ITV4 in the week too. Exciting stuff to have a whole season live on normal telly, I hope that it attracts new viewers to the sport because I really like it so happy to see it get a bit stronger (not too strong though, one of the main attractions is affordability.
