Even a mediocre player may look like a world class when playing in a world class team but when these mediocres are put together in same team it becomes.... team England.Quote:

It's a mixture of things really. It's not Capellos fault that Terry and Upson played like schoolboys or that Rooney had the first touch of a gorilla for the whole tournament. However, playing Gerrard wide left is like a F1 boss signing Fernando Alonso and having him operating the wheel gun, virtually any football fan in England can tell you that Gerrard out wide doesn't work. Dawson is by far a better option than Upson, Heskey playing up front on his own was never going to work, Wright-Phillips on the left doesn't work and Joe Cole's best position is not sat on the bench.
Capello made the same mistake that the last two managers did, looked at his best players and picked them regardless of whether it was the right choice for the team. What didn't help him was the abject performances that were put in but I still attribute some of that to having blokes playing out of position, it's stupid to have someone playing 40+ games a season in the centre of midfield and then deciding that they should be on the left wing.
4-4-2 was the biggest mistake Capello made.Quote:

4-4-1-1 might have worked with Rooney as a lone striker and Gerrard in behind.
My personal favourite formation is 4-6-0 that Manchester United have had so much success with recetly. Two of the 6 in midfield hold and the other 4 attack, but come back to defend as a team.
Brazil have a great balance at the moment. They are looking very strong. In the last World Cup they looked awful at the back but I can't see anyone beating them this time round.
Well even if the debate on technology is re-opened I can imagine the Scots, Welsh and Irish will all vote against as a way to piss-off the English and EIRE.
Rooney was probably the reason that the coach didn't try that. Rooney was terrible and I can't see any reason why pinning any goalscoring hopes solely on him would not have been a disastrous failure.Quote:

True. Lippi won the World Cup once while Capello didn't even get close ;)Quote:
Capello isn't Lippi, he took the best available players with him,

the problem is that the quality isn't there, starting from the keepers...
He looked like he had stage fright the whole time, and was very erratic with the ball. I don't think that would've suddenly changed had he been the sole striker.Quote:

Bottom line is that I love "futbol" and I love seeing it well played.
And yes, Peace dammit! and I recommend that you see "The Two Escobars" an ESPN documentary made by some friends of mine that do a fantastic job explaining the story of Andres Escobar and his autogol in the World Cup. It also does a great job in showing the social/economical/political situation in my birth country Colombia in the hight of the Pablo Escobar's reign. It was a very tough emotional ride but very well worth it.
OK - got to see the game now.
Enjoy!

That is something that most team coahes to a large degree have their hands tied. There is no way for him to understand how the team players will interact "when the big fish start running". Chemistry is something that is developed by the experience of playing together! I played on a Baseball team that was good but we won the whole shooting match to spite our coach.
Reverse psychology? Maybe but we did develop a chemistry that had guys playing their "A" game throughout the playoffs. We were underdogs in every game as we were the lowest seeded team, which is also a motivation!
The team that developed the best chemistry the fastest will be The World Cup winners. And just possibly not as good as team that got booted earlier because they had no chemistry!
Man, I still confuse my Uruguays with my Paraguays. Forlan will play tomorrow.Quote:

The fact is that someone has to lose and the stats or coin toss are fortunately not a part of the equation.
Looking forward to an exciting Spain/Portugal.
