Re: [ERC] 31. Int. Janner Rallye 2014 (03.-05.01.2014):
Sorry, Southwest of Freistadt! But there are hardly signs of snow southeast of Freistadt, where most of the stages take place (been to Lasberg and Pregarten).
Even on the higher parts of qualifying stage there´s some snow, but as mentioned non on the roads.
But ice (white frost) and black ice could be a factor, as observed on saturday.
Being back there on friday.

At the moment it looks like it will be a pure tarmac rally. But at least the weather should be better than last year. I don't know how the stages look like in Liebenau, St. Oswald or Unterweissenbach, but in the region around Pregarten there is absolute no snow. Even in the forests there aren't any icy patches.

As well as the gearshift issue, it makes sense for him to be in the RRC for Janner as it is more similar to his WRCar for next year. Shame that it sounds less spectacular than my vacuum cleaner, but it will be interesting to see how he gets on. As always, I expect him to have the speed to win but whether he does or not is a different matter...
Fia have screwed kubica with a new gear cut mininium time as it is paddle , a time longer than a manual shift would take, as vw have complained about him being allowed paddle which is a shame
I think Robert is fighting to get same time allowed as manual , I think he has enough of a disadvantage in other way

I must say from spectator view that I'm extremly happy to have an absolute tarmac rally. The speeds are much higher and with gravel on the tarmac due to cutting of the bends it will be very attractive. Whenever there was snow during Jänner Rally everything seemed so slow-there are no studs allowed in Austria !
Rallying on snow&ice in Scandinavia is very attractive due to allowed studs, without studs is boring.....
Expect small group of rally fans from Slovenia !

Studs are allowed in Austria and the were always allowed at Jänner Rallye. The Studs that are allowed in Austria are only much smaller than in Scandinavia. If you had seen the 2011 edition you wouldn't say, that Jänner Rallye on tarmac is more spectacular than on snow.

You are right, but this are short studs (Monte Carlo version), in the Scandinavia are different and therefore the grip and speed is uncomparable....
