Henning Solbergs test in Ireland yesterday was cancelled (rather dramatically) when one of the marshals guarding the test stage was found dead. The man aged 60 had experienced massive heart failure and died instantly on the stage. Testing was of course abandoned in respect of the deceased and his family.
Brief Hirvonen interview:
""I've had two days of testing with the team on typical Irish roads which was very good. We found a good balance with the car and the tyres and my confidence is high,” he said. "But testing is one thing - the real rally is another. I know it is going to be difficult and I have to be realistic. The Citroens will be strong and tarmac is Sebastien's preferred surface. It will be important to get points and not risk too much."
And Hirvonen pointed out that the next round is Rally Norway, where the surface will switch from gravel to snow, and he and team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala, also Finnish, will be more at home.
"Sebastien is not quite so good on snow so we have a good chance there and with that in mind maybe we can risk a bit more in Ireland. I don't know. It will be a difficult rally and anything can happen, even to Sebastien. We have to be prepared to take advantage of any opportunity," he said.""
