Today (Tuesday, September 24) the first of four test days was held that Hyundai Motorsport planned to evaluate the effectiveness of the developments developed for the i20 in the R5 version. The start of this intense test program was Andrea Crugnola who traveled about 250 kilometers on the asphalt around Mazamet (south of France).
The driver from Varese worked closely with the engineers of the Korean company, focusing above all on the new suspensions that immediately appeared extremely fast and effective. What is the antechamber of an ongoing collaboration? For now, nothing is decided.
Certainly an excellent opportunity for Crugnola, which is not new to these types of activities anyway: already Citroen Racing and Renault Sport have involved it several times in the development tests of DS3 and Clio R3T in the past years. Now it's up to Craig Breen, who starting tomorrow will continue the work started by Italian.

Important wins in France and Spain for the C3 R5 during last weekend: Bonato won Rallye Couer de France on a close figth with the current series leader Rossel (also on a C3); Lopez won Rally Villa de Llanes and is, alongside Hyundai drivers Ares and Pernia, on the title bid.
So do we say the big 3 or the big 2. Is the new Fiesta fast enuff?
Not yet I think. It set some better times in Wales but I guess they did a lot of the testing on similar roads and Greensmith/Paddon should have been a strong lineup for that event.
Turkey I don’t really consider as that was a who-can-get-the-least-punctures competition.
Moffett family seems to have bought a Polo R5.

No, only hired for Donegal Harvest Rally, same Dom Buckley Motorsport car used by Marty McCormick to win Cork 20.
Donagh Kelly is also in a VW Polo on the Donegal Harvest Rally.

I suspect it was useful for MSport engineers to get the insight of someone who had just driven Polo and Fabia Evo, and interesting for us to hear in depth and honest opinions too.
Sounds like Fiesta is fundamentally good but might be difficult to get the right setup for any given condition.
Will be interesting to see how Camilli goes in the C3 in Spain having been rather disappointing in the Fiesta in Finland & Germany.
It looks more and more that the disasterous performance in Estonia and Finland was about improper/not enough preparations for the two events. The damage was done however.
Well, they didn`t but those who wanted to buy one at the given moment, probably opted for a proven car...
I dont think anyone would buy any brand new, just released, R5 if they wanted a totally proven car.
Look at the latest such as the i20 R5, C3 R5 & Polo R5 - which of them was a proven winner out of the box ?
Most need a while to shakedown all the faults and gremlins and to find the best set-ups...
Fabia EVO was fast and reliable straight out of box...
Because it´s looks very much same than before you tend to forget that has different homologation numbers than before.
Pretty sure that because of Fiesta Mk2 problems, others have gained some orders.
Is anything happening with the Toyota Yaris R5 plans?
