Let's write it straight. The main reason you now suddenly don't like Lappi is cause he is going to Citroen.
It would be interesting to know the weather conditions on the stages. The forecasts were showing that the rain would get heavier towards noon. Would the first stage have been very wet? Will the full wet tyre be now even a better option?

For teams that have made wrong tyre choices, it is easy to get stage cancelled if they wanted. Just call to some hired "friendly" spectators to e.g. drive their cars too close to stage or organize any other type of hassle in the SS.
Or then it might be typical "road is muddy and wet, we have to cancel this" ;)

regarding the tyre choice
Latvalas test day was quite wet in the morning and Tänaks test day also started with damp conditions...they may have tested the tyres and know exactly which one works better, hence their thoice
