Sorry, Janusz, I can't say for certain but based on the seeding, if I really had to choose, I would go with "Piggy".

The other David Thompson was from the North East and had two brothers who also competed Peter and Simon. The sponsor would usually be one of two family owned businesses Harold Thompson and Sons, a Vauxhall Dealership in North Shields or Charta Furniture on Wearside.

Thanks for the confirmation, Martin, I was fairly confident, but not absolutely certain. Incidentally the co-driver of the "D. Thompson" in 1982 that Janusz was asking about was Ken Bills according to juwra.com. Would that tip the balance in favour of "Piggy" or the other way?

I would tend to disagree based on the fact that Ken Bills was the co-driver (both were (and Ken still is) Tynemouth and District Motor Club members); however I can't be certain. I'll ask Ken Bills next time I see him.

The other way ie. not Piggy. Ken Bills was from North East, not Yorkshire. Having said that, David "Charta" Thompson was in Sussex (Chichester) at one time.
Not that the above is needed to identify him. I knew David from Finland in 74. I passed him on that 82 RAC on the last Kielder stage, having dropped into a ditch and still partly on the road. I was distracted, thinking I should pass a message that he just needed a push to get back on, and I ran wide on the next bend and rolled down an embankment...

What about the BTCC? Given this is the touring car section, thats what should be being discussed...not some old rally cars :rolleyes:
