Is it Damascus?
Why - yes it is :)
Damascus, Syria, was flourishing a couple of thousand years before Rome was founded in 753 BC, making it the oldest continuously inhabited city in existence
that was quick!
Some you know, some you don't  Actually I tossed a coin between Damascus and Jericho.
A 3-part railway question regarding the so-called "Lunatic Line"?
(1) Where is it?
(2) what gauge is it?
(3) What animal is associated with it?
steve might know this...
I have no idea..but I will hazard a guess, South America?
Iv'e heard this somewhere.
I am picturing Africa and people lining the train tracks trying to leap onto a moving train.
I would guess Rwanda or Uganda, but it is just as likely to be in Switzerland up the side of a mountain?
Sadly I have no idea actually.
Vietnam?
Africa is correct but you need to be more precise. It was reputedly described as "The Lunatic Railway" by the newspapers at the time it was being built
I seem to remember it was built by the Brits, and was on Africa's East coast, so Uganda, through Kenya to the sea?
Gauge - wouldn't even know how to guess (but 00 gauge is small model trains)
Animal - i would guess at either a lion, or maybe a snake. A lion because... well... it is Africa, or a snake because it winds it's way across the country like a metal snake?
(1) Kenya-Uganda Railway
(2) We still need the gauge
(3) Lions is correct - the Man-Eaters of Tsavo which delayed construction of the Tsavo Bridge by eating the workforce.
Edit: Lion-Eaters corrected to Man-Eaters
