I have been disappointed with Nascar coverage this year because I can't afford to have Sky sports. I remember having the two series on Setanta for like 9.99 a month. Now it's like near enough £40 per month for the Sky (with all that bloody football) and another 12.99 per month for the setanta to get very un-reliable coverage of the Nationwide.I don't even have a Sky+ box which is another £100 outlay.
I preferred the coverage without any British intervention. You also used to get telemetry on screen during breaks and pre-race coverage, I know there were some balls ups but at least I could afford it. Since becoming a mature student I missed the last ten races, sh*te.
Just to add I'm worried about ALMS too next season because the motors people(or is it Eurosport) don't run an info bar like the speed coverage does which makes endurance racing far more involving.
Wish we had Nascar trucks too but knowing luck it would go exclusively to Virgin customers lol.
I might just cancel the lot because it would be less frustrating.
Sorry just having a rant, I'm rarely on here and never get to chat to folk about motor racing.

A good point is always worth making twice :D
Just just to clarify, the coverage has been good, providing you had Sky and Sultana - otherwise it was rubbish. Five had a tiny highlight show that missed out loads apparently.
Anyone know whats happend to stoogetv,it was a great site for sport especially sprint cup.I went to watch some football on there yesterday and its gone!!Just hope its back by next february,it was a great source to watch the cup pre and post race show (i'd watch the race itself on sky)
Is it February yet?
I know Sky have rights to Sprint Cup for this season (and that they are also showing Indy Car). Have heard rumours they may show the Craftsman Truck Series?
Was on NASN (soon to be ESPN America) website and they say they will be showing Nascar Now Magazine Show but that they do not have rights to the Nationwide Series for this season. They have always shown it here in past seasons. Has anybody any news regarding the Nationwide Series on UK tv for 2009?
Thanks

i got rid of setanta last year and opted for TVU player and NASCAR.com for the Nationwide races.
I e-mailed sky during the braodcast of either phoenix or homestead race regarding coverage for 2009,had a reply stating they had no intention to broadcast the truck series.
Will Nationwide series be returning to motors tv?I really do not want 2 subscrptions this year (sky sports&setanta) having cancelled setanta in novvember.
Hey guys,
can anyone confirm that Sky will be boadcasting the NASCAR races for the UK again this year? Or might we be so lucky to get NASN back? ;-)
Thanks!
Pieter
Hi Pieter,
Sky Sports have the contract for all Sprint Cup races again this year including the Bud Shootout, the duel 125's and the All Star race.
NASN have announced that they are not showing the Nationwide series this year which I am peed off about, as yet I cannot find anyone that is showing it (or at least anyone who has announced they have the rights).
NASN are still showing Nascar Now this year, but thats the only coverage they will have according to their website.
Hopefully someone picks up the Nationwide rights, Sky may be interested as they have been happy with the Sprint Cup or maybe Motors TV might get it back like a couple of years ago. I hope someone says something soon as Daytona is fast approaching!
First few races of the season:
07th February - Budweiser Shootout - SSX
12th February - Gatorade Dual At Daytona - SS3/HD3
15th February - Daytona 500 - SS2/HD2
22ndFebruary - AutoClub - SS2/HD2
01st March - Las Vegas - SS3/HD3
08th March - Atlanta - SS3/HD3
22nd March - Bristol - SSX
29th March - Martinsville - SS3/HD3
with the 2.5hr weekly world motorsport programme having had it's last programme, it will be interesting to see what motorsport they put in it's place(if any, and there'd better be some or i'll be firing off some e-mails to sky sports)
Sure this isn't just during the 'off-season' ?? I have no idea, genuinely asking.Quote:

They tried to get me to take 2 HD boxes to replace our 2 Sky+ boxes but I already pay them £57 a month (plus an extra £13 a month for Setanta/NASN) and they wanted an extra tenner a month for it.
I said if they cant give a customer since 1994, who spends over £650 a year with them for TV, HD for nothing then I didn't want it.
I do really lol!
It was our mega old Digi box that went. I think we will be paying £6 extra for the HD. At some point in the near future HD will become free. Probably sometime after Freeview goes HD (has that happened yet?). With NASN no longer having coverage of the Nationwide series could be worth ditching them and getting HD. Unless you watch other stuff on NASN ?.
Yeah I want to keep the Setanta package for Nascar Now, Premier League footie, FA Cup, England games and boxing. Plus Setanta are meant to be looking into showing Speedway (sky have the rights to the british leagues so Setanta are reportedly looking at Polish league action).Quote:

I suspect if we do get Nationwide, it will be total last minute. I'm almost used to this uncertainty just like previous years.
What I have discovered though (I having a moan earlier in this thread) is that in a few weeks I can get a land line, broadband, Sky+ and Sky sports for a far more affordable price so I'm happy and relieved that we can look forward to Sprint without any doubts.
We should all campaign to get the Speed channel over here with all the Nascar stuff, late modified, dirt, drag etc.
Not sure companies can convince staff to read their forums, and actually report back with anything sensible. They are far too busy doing what they please.
It would be great to see Nationwide back on Motors TV, havnt watched it since it left Motors TV (I never could justify a Sultana subscription) and I always enjoyed it. Sky Sports' coverage of NASCAR is pretty decent, making good use of the excellent coverage produced for the states and thier own analysts to bridge the gap between NASCAR and the british audience.Quote:

I'm just hoping that Sky will actually show more than one NASCAR race in full HD this year.
With the exception of the season-opening Daytona 500, which was shown in full HD, many of the races Sky showed last year on their HD channels were only in standard definition(albeit as good as it could look in SD)
This was pretty disappointing especially after the superb pictures from Daytona at the start of the season!
More full HD please this year Sky!!! ;)
I got sky sports back in time to see man city earn a great win today :)
Is there anywhere online to get extra nascar coverage to suplement sky's broadcast,in particular pre-race show, trucks and nationwide action?
Re Nascar on UK TV.
Oh well, unless there is a last minute deal of some kind it looks as if we will not be seeing the Nationwide (Busch) series over here this year, I suppose we have been spoilt over the last 5 or so years with both Sprint Cup and Nationwide series having been available. I do hope someone comes in and makes it available. In the meantime thanks to Sky Sports for their continuing coverage of the Sprint Cup.
Heads up to those of us who don't have a stallactite dish: Five are showing the Budweiser Shootout overnight at 2am - this does not appear in your listing magazines; I only found out when Diana Thingy mentioned it in the build-up to the Daytona 24 Hours programme from last night.
I don't mind the UK coverage of the pre-race show. I guess they're trying to build their fan-base and want to explain the racing to new people - I was in that position last year and I felt like I was learning along with Keith Heuwen as the season went along. Maybe a red button service for the US feed would be nice, but I don't think Sky would give up the bandwidth for what is still a niche sport in the UK.
And it's great to have Larry Mac and DW back with Fox...!
What worries me is the standard of email that they get. Seriously i was expecting someone to ask "why do cars have tyres?".Quote:

Sky are really pushing the Daytona 500 this year, the trailer for it is on during almost every ad break.
Where is the Truck race and Nationwide?
Wheels has vanished from TVU again
And to be honest, I have not checked NASCAR.com - are they showing them live like last year?
try here:

I watched the truck race tonight live on www.justin.tv
Excellent quality too! Would stay up for the Nationwide but work in the morning so sleep calls.
So does the race simply appear as a link down the page where all those events are listed ?? Or am I missing something.Quote:

I think you're just being a misery! lol.

I had a great time thanks,to finally see Kyle win a cup race was something special, especially starting from the back.I really thought Jeff was going to win untill he cocked up his pitstop and blew that tyre.
I saw some bloke on the coach carrying some digger cuddly toys and thought to myself who in their right mind would want them!!!!!!!It did seem like evryone else except me thought they were cool so i guess i am a misery lol!!
