Meeting this afternoon (17.30) with @fia, teams and @RallySweden to take a decision #wrc #RallySweden
Why propose such a small change in the time of the event, when you can go extreme. Run Sweden and Finland back to back in the summer. Sweden runs late into the night (not much midnight sun in July) and Finland runs like it usually does. And then you can find some other place for winter rally.
Breathing :-) and alive... I responded in a new comment! But anyway, if they will go on with all ''newly planned'' stages they have some big balls regarding the budget & safety... but great for the spectators :-)
Maybe grading the roads with fresh gravel will work and save the damage being too bad...
Thanks for the answer, a pleasure having a weather expert on the forum. Okay, then I guess the only "guarantee" is to have it higher up north, or higher in altitude, or at least have a "Plan B" set of stages to use if the conditions are troublesome. This Plan B-solution may be the best?

I think that most reasonable is to do it like it is in Monaco. They start in Karlstad, then put cars on trailers, service area somewhere in Hagfors or Mora and stages with remote service starting from Mora-Sälen-Vansbro triangle, then Norway stages and then the stages around colins crest. So, the northern section should almost always have some snow, same for Norwegian stages and last part will be tricky, some years good, others not so good:)
And to clear on the ground frostcase , we have had very similar weather in here and I would say that road bottom is still cpompletely frozen It takes at least month to melt. I have done drilling under ski track in the middle of May, it was +20 outside, for more than a week alrady and in 20 cm depth we found 20 cm fully frozen layer. Surface under the road freezes quickly even with snow as the snow is quickly compacted by cars. Melting takes a long time as first the ice layer needs to melt. Top layer starts to melt and bottom layers often continiues tofreezes as the cold melting water (from the surface) gets too cool again. So, those -5..-7..-10 dgrees is more than enough for roads to freeze that top layer. It will be just a bit more expensive for competitors who need many, many tires. I do not seesafety risk here apart from one. When there is big lake, Pond, river nearby that is slightly frozen and car goes off the road and through the ice, then it will be very difficult for the crew to find the entrance hole in the ice. But for that, you need extremely terrible luck. And it seems that big lakes are still covered by very thick ice layer that should carry all the cars.
So that meeting at 17.30 is called by Michelin. Afraid to hurt their brand name?

Road grading teams have worked through the night to re-prepare stages ready for this week's Rally Sweden.
"We went out on the stages to grade them before the forecast cold weather arrives," explained Rally Sweden Clerk of the Course Stig-Rune Kjernsli.
"We want to make them good so that when the sub zero temperatures arrive we have a frozen gravel surface."
The grading process smoothed the ruts that appeared during the recce. "The surface now looks very good," added Kjernsli.
Next up at the RS press conference is WRC drivers @AMikkelsenRally, @MadsOstberg, @HaydenPaddon and @YazeedRacing.
Should be interesting... ;)

Organizers have done a very big job to make @RallySweden happen. My feeling is that we should run some stages !
Great reply to Ogier, Jari ! :D
The safety is no problem driving on frozen gravel with reduced number of studs. So many rallies during the years has been driven on frozen gravel. Nothing new. One problem to admit is that RS is one of the fastest rallies in the series. But drivers has to adapt. Like Henning said earlier today.

The teams are allowed to provide 2 more tires to the crews on the road section between SS2 and 3 tomorrow, because of safety reasons. #WRC
I am devastated for the long term future of the rally with the costs and cuts involved but for the sport as a whole I think the unpredictability could provide a good show. That said, I still bet on ogier as #1 in the pickems ;)
Opening day route of Rally Sweden unchanged despite road concerns

Sebastien Ogier, VW, GB WRC 2015
The route for tomorrow's opening day of Rally Sweden will not change, despite concerns for the state of the road in the initial stage.
The rally organisers, FIA, WRC Promoter and manufacturers all met again on Thursday evening to discuss Friday's action, with agreement reached to run all stages planned in the revised itinerary, but with two additional tyres.
The opening superspecial stage in Karlstad was cancelled earlier in the week, but the ceremonial start went ahead as planned and Friday morning's Torsby stage also remains.
The concern at running the 10-miler in Torsby has centred on the impact on the tyres ahead of two longer, full-ice stages which follow across the border in Norway.
The ice cover in Torsby is limited, with the drivers expecting to emerge from the stage with studs missing from their tyres.
With that in mind, the organisers have sanctioned another change to the itinerary and are now building in a remote tyre zone before the Rojden stage, SS3.
The crews will be permitted the two extra tyres at that zone. Using the two spares they will carry in the car, they can then proceed into Norway with four perfect tyres, providing none have punctured.
World Rally Champion Sebastien Ogier admitted this year's Rally Sweden would present a new challenge.
"It's going to be different to before," he told Autosport.
"The stages in Norway are no problem. We have some ice in there and these stages look good. Some of the others look a little bit difficult.
"For sure, we have some stages which are 100 per cent gravel - these can't run."
The organisers have already cancelled eight of the 21 stages.
"It will be tricky," Ogier added. "With no snowbanks it can be quite difficult, but I'm not afraid of this challenge."
No decisions regarding the itinerary for Saturday and Sunday were taken during the meeting.
A source within the event told Autosport: "We're watching the weather, like we have been for the last month!
"We expect the weather to go cold, a lot colder. Minus 10 degrees tonight (Thursday) and minus all day Friday and Friday night would make the stages a lot more workable."

According to SMHI, Fredriksberg stage might get some (very little) snow during Friday and Saturday.
