He was just next to me, I thought it was a good idea as the bank is a lot steeper than it looks.Quote:

Our car actually passed under him. Bet he got some cracker photosQuote:

From a spectators point of view NZ is way above Australia, the marshals are a lot more civil and treat you like a human being!Quote:

Thanks for sharing the video, you attended a lot of different spots! Hasn't the guy at 9:55 heard of the GoPro camera?
What is the spectating point at 2:30? Te Akau Coast?
Thanks for that, there was one other spot but it wasn't very good. We are still learning with the GoPro footage, next event it should turn out better. I think it was the "north" stage on the Friday afternoon. Was pretty sick, so fast!
Was an interesting decision to pop his head over the bridge.. He'd still be in jail if it was Aus but!
Soo beautiful roads...Quote:

But I doooo very much like the EVENT. In NZeven if there's not even 1/10 the hotties spectating per hectare in NZ as in Finland.
I was thinking and I came to it.. I'm a driver, or was so to a simple minded driver----was that redundant?---I look at the roads and the ROADS in Finland draw me, challenge my imagination, they CALL me!
And the setting for those Finnish roads is very nice too, sometimes pretty---for me having lived so long next door with same forests, lots of lakes, same soil, red cabins ,it makes me in very oddly "home sick".
The setting for NZ roads is very pretty in the "pretty farm-y setting" way.
I wonder if people separate the roads for the setting like I know I'm doing?
From Paddon's onboard it seems that speed is lower then in Finland but great road it is.
Holder Brothers Racing, Rally Otago 2012 - YouTube
If I have copied the this link correctly it will take you to a stage on the Otago Rally which is round of the NZ Championship. The stage is called Golden Bar is 30km long and this is the 2nd time that this stage has been run as part of this event and first time that the Holder Brothers in their 1600CC Toyota Corolla have undertaken this stage.

Looks like the stage---and the terrain we have here in Eastern Washington and Oregon. Or in Canada
800 6R......700 5L....1000 6L---800 5L
Where we have guys in low spec, barely warmed over, maybe 125 hp cars averaging 130km/hr..
oi, oi oi.....
Not far in from the start you can see the championship leading car a the time a rolled up ball of metal after it went off a brow at around 178kph and caught the watertable then rolled about 200 metres down the road. The car pulled 6g during the accident . Most of the stage is 4 to 6 in the calls. Jemba notes suppied and one pass recce. Young David Holder who was driving looks like that he will be our next Hayden or Possum. He sure knows the meaning of the word committment.Quote:

Personally, from my limited experience, I think the roads in Finland are the best, just because of the jumps :) .
I normally tell people NZ has the best roads in the world and that Finland is like heaven. From a spectating point of view NZ is amazing because you can see the cars for kms, while Finland has the amazing atmosphere and all the crazy Finnish fans.
Any road with a rally car on it is the best road in the world ... no matter where it is.
as far as it is gravel. few tarmac road are forgiven, corsica and some in monte are the exception for meQuote:

Just out of curiosity... where was this value coming from? You know I studied vehicle safety and such a value like 6g You can do just by shaking Your head in a metal concert ;) For example a value which is considered a non-lethal for a pedestrians head hitting the bonnet is 100g (similar to a situation when You fall on Your head in a bathroom). Of course such high accelerations are "safe" for just a fraction of time. Even a millisecond of such load can kill.Quote:

Which leads me to think if the best roads, gravel or tarmac, should be WRC events then a slightly enlarged Ypres would be a fantastic WRC round. Not to mention, very media friendly.
I have all ways thought that the best rally road was the one that I was on at the time
Even I really like Ypres the roads are far from being one of the best in the world. They are very difficult, yes, but that's mostly because they are completely strange and unlogic surrounded by deep ditches. Some stages are really nice but some are boring and rather useless like the Heuvelland in its last edition. But sure the beauty of an event is not only in stages even though they are really important.Quote:

oh dear, your man in the video would have piled into the trees a few times on that one stage oh dear oh dear I see what you mean.
Anyway the trees have two sides like everything else: the hurt, they make CHANGING shadows, but they also can speak to me in advance and tell me to some degree where the road is going.
But, as I always say "whaddya I know?"
I thought the variability of everything on gravel was the challenge.
I agree not all Rally roads are created equal. It is a individual thing though, personally sollitt I think the wairarapa roads are awful based on my experiences, but no doubt most people tell you they are fine.Quote:

Well that right there brings into serious question the quality of your judgement.Quote:

Agreed, excellent stuff, love the cars 'dancing'.
Just video ending is not too optimistic
