So did he dump the Fiesta, or what is the reason for going with the Fabia ?Quote:

:p aper: Full program for René Georges Rally Sport with Nasser Al-Attiyah - 11th Feb 10, 12:01
A few days ago we could inform with the great news that Nasser Al-Attiyah will contest the Rally of Argentina (IRC) with the René Georges Rally Sport team as a result of the negotiations between Raouf Menhem and René Georges himself.
After this agreement, Nasser Al-Attiyah decided to contest the new S-WRC championship with the RGRS team and a Skoda Fabia S2000 in the colors of sponsor Barwa. The Qatari driver will take the start of the following S-WRC rounds: Mexico, Jordan, New-Zealand, Portugal, Finland, Japan and Wales Rally GB.
RGRS and Nasser Al-Attiyah will also compete in some IRC rounds. As we already announced Argentina will be the first one, but now we can add Sardinia, the Azores, Barum, San Remo and Scotland to the program.
Al-Attiyah will also take the Skoda Fabia S2000 to challenge in four rounds of the MERC being Rally of Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus and Dubai.
The least we can say is that the team from Belgium will have a full agenda.
They will bring two Skoda Fabia S2000’s to the start of some rally’s in the S-WRC, being one for Nasser Al-Attiyah and one for the Norwegian Eyvind Brynildsen. In the IRC they will do the same, this time one for Nasser Al-Attiyah and one for the Belgian Freddy Loix. Having those talented drivers taking out their cars, René Georges Rally Sport expects to complete the season with some superb results as well in gravel as in tarmac rally’s.

Al Attiyah is aiming for the IRC title (and another 3!): http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/81423
Al attiyah signed a 3 year contract with Volkswagen(group). Is the rally raid program his own initiative, devellopping the Race Touareg, or will VW stay in Rally raids and not join the new WRC?
I have the ut most repsect for Al Attiyah. In 2008 he conquered 3 championships. Now he wants 4 titles. :)
program of the FIA Cross Country Rally Chamionship
UAE Desert Challange: 25 maart – 1 april
OiLibya Tunesie Rally: 1-8 mei
Estoril-Portimão-Marrakech: 11-18 juni
Rallye des Pharaons: 2-10 oktober
His rally raid program will be very hard to put into his already very bussy scedule.
The desert challange collides with Rallly Arentina (IRC),
the Tunesie rally with Rally New Zealand (SWRC)
and the Pharaons rally with Syria Rally (MERC)
Red Bull private plane.. :)
Martin Prokop confirmed three starts in IRC - Sardinia, Barum and Sanremo.

She speaks about 700 tousand Euro. That's a price for S2000 car for sure.
She also drove a Punto
Maybe she will drive several different S2000 cars then
it would be brilliant, drive the car that suits the conditions the best: a Peugeot for the one rally, a Skoda for the next, a Ford for the third rally
This will definitely hot up IRC !!
Bernardo Sousa is aiming to start in Raly Sata Acores and Rallye Vinho Madeira with the Ford Fiesta S2000
"We are still waiting for confirmation from my sponsor, but I will try to participate in the Portuguese championship, including two companies IRC, which is traveling to Madeira and the Azores"
Franz Wittmann plans to stay ‘match fit’ ahead of his next Intercontinental Rally Challenge event by contesting a handful of national rallies in his Interwetten Racing Peugeot 207 S2000.
Wittmann isn’t scheduled to return to the IRC until the fourth round of the series, Rally d’Italia-Sardegna, which will take place from 4-6 June. Before then, however, the 26-year-old and his Romo Motorsporttechnik team hope to gain further knowledge of their Super 2000 machine on selected gravel events.
“It’s a big worry if I don’t drive before Sardinia because I don’t have the experience with my car and still need to get comfortable with it and get the feeling,” said Wittmann. “We are looking at doing some small gravel rallies, possibly in Italy, and we also hope to do some tests.”
Wittmann, from Wels in Austria, will take part on a total of eight IRC events this season alongside experienced German co-driver Klaus Wicha.

Príncipe de Asturias is out of the IRC if my feeds aren't mistaken... They've already organised a press conference for tomorrow
The Rally will still take place for ERC and National Championship

No money, no IRC.
It wil have big influences in the planning of all the drivers and teams. Moving the Spanish IRC round from he mainland Europe in septembrer to an island trip in may. All of the championship contenders, except Skoda Motorsport, had Asturias planned as 1 of the 7 needed rounds. So Meeke, Wilks, Mikkelsen, Magelhaes, Proton, Oliviera have to hussle their planning for this year, moving the cars a lot sooner from Argentina.
Rally Sardinia still stands in IRC, or have they dropped also (and being replaced by the Acropolis Rally) ?
Rally Sardegna stands as it is!Quote:

No problem for Mikkelsen, he will not start in Argentina.
It doesn't mean they are obliged to go to canariasQuote:

I meant that most off the drivers have to be carefull with their budget, (maybe with the exception of Meeke) and adding the Canaris Island to the scedule will have bigger impact than the Asturias rally. So most of the drivers have to hussle their planning. Not many drivers will take the boat to the Canaris Island and will pick an other (European) rally. Maybe some of them would rather havbe done the Brasil/Argentina tour instead. The IRC should eather put an rally on the mainland of Europe on the scedule, or skip the 12th rally.Quote:

Basso and Rossetti get factory Abarths for Sanremo
Abarth has put itself in a strong position to add to its tally of wins in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge by confirming that it will enter a pair of factory-supported Abarth Grande Punto Super 2000s on Rallye Sanremo in September for two former event winners.
The Turin manufacturer, which has claimed six overall wins since the IRC began in 2007, has signed star drivers Giandomenico Basso and Luca Rossetti to lead its assault on the Italian Rally Championship, which runs alongside the IRC on the Sanremo-based Tarmac rally from September 23-25.
Basso and Rossetti have both claimed four victories apiece in the IRC (Rossetti was driving a Peugeot 207 when he landed his quartet of wins), and both have won in Sanremo before, with Rossetti triumphing in 2007 and Basso taking the laurels the following season.
Team Trico Motor Sport will run the factory Abarths this season

We should see the Abarths on more than just Sanremo hopefully as they plan an ERC campaign for Rossetti too.Quote:
