I just do not get the notion of a fear of crime that is so deep-rooted as to make people think that gun ownership is even desirable, let alone necessary. I have never lived anywhere so dangerous as to even make me wish for a second that I could be armed. This includes South London, where, if one were to believe certain sections of the press, gun crime is everywhere. This is why many of us Europeans talk about paranoia in this regard.
