In Kenya, Toyota will use the same innovative snorkel developed for last season’s edition.
Toyota is carrying out pre-Safari Rally 2025 tests in Portugal and is using this particular snorkel that it created and developed for the Safari Rally 2024.
The innovation is in its construction, not in its operation:
The air enters from an air intake on the roof, a position chosen by the team to avoid mainly the splashes of water raised by the shape of the bodywork when crossing a ford.
Operation: The co-driver activates it via a button in the cockpit near a ford or an extremely sandy area. At the front of the car there is an air duct made up of two tubes that work alternately: normally the main tube brings air to the engine from the air intake on the front of the car and the other (the one coming from the snorkel) is closed.
When the co-driver, via mechanical command, activates the snorkel, the main tube closes and the snorkel tube opens.
In this way, the engine always receives air, preventing the entry of sand or water.
