Is it the Area of the Atlantic where the Space Shuttle Challenger crashed?
I may be mistaken (probably) but I think it is also know as the Marianas Trench, a deep ocean trench (deepest in fact) in the South Pacific.
I think its the same as what Breeze said...its the deep ocean trench off the coast of Philippines?
I thought it was just off Japan - but I agree with it being the Mariana Trench.
I can even tell you it is 7 miles deep, but I wont because no-one likes a know-it-all!
I thought it was off the coast of Java?
If correct, here...........and that would be in the Northern Pacific Ocean
Ok Breeze, you have got half the answer. You have the where, as it is in the Mariana Trench. But what is it, ie what is so special about Challenger Deep? You are also very close to what it is.

I agree that the Mariana Trench is the deepest oceanic trench in the oceans of the world.
This is like saying the Himalayas are the tallest mountain, not Mt Everest.
