All though 2001 and 2003 are more of a product of the 36 race schedule than the domination of the 34 race schedules of '99 & '00 & 33 races in '98. Cale's would be the most impressive domination since they only ran 30 races in '77. Second would be Jeff's '98 run...even though Ray soaked the tires. :laugh:

FYI 1974 was not modern. It was a funky system involving multipliers based on # of starts etc. The ridiculousness of it was exposed when Darrell Waltrip finished 2nd at Darlington, and Richard Petty finished 35th, but Richard got more points than Darrell. :eek: Richard was champion with 10 wins so no one will say he didn't deserve the championship, but it was one bizarre system that no one understood.

OK...Bobby Labonte had 5061 in 1999 when he finished second to DJ for the championship. So that's 8 if you're including the '74 season.

Yes that's the one. Actually when I started to write the question it was going to be who scored the most points without winning the championship. Sorry about the '74 thing I couldn't find the definitive answer so I gave the year range.

No prob! My bad for missing BLabs since that was the start of his championship run. Hadn't DJ been so far ahead, BLabs would have made a strong run in '99 for the title considering how well he ran late in the season.

This one will be easy...but it's all I got. Name the drivers who have won the championship with three wins or less.

There's 12 total including Terry LaBonte twice....so Mugs nailed seven.
