I remember running down to the bank once and cashing in a pound note for 1/2p coins; then throwing 200 of the damn things into the roof cavity of the house were we just moving out of.

I think it was what Lancastrians did instead of using savings accounts. If you spread you money about like that then you're less likely to spend it ;)

Yes, but when you do want it you have to knock on you old door and say to the stranger who answers the door, "Hi, can I climb into your ceiling? I left some money up there"............

When my father was a little boy he decided it'd be a great idea to pretend floorboards in a room being decorated were a postbox. So, he gathered up some old family photographs, and posted them :D

Many moons later, the house had been sold on and was having renovation works done. The photos were discovered, an advert put in the paper, and eventually my father showed up to collect them :D
