Monte Carlo 2011

I on the other hand loved those two stages, and like the monte lottery conditions. But I am amazed how bad tyre choices the top drivers did. The teams has forgotten the basics, have a couple of friends on each stage reporting the real conditions. As far as I understood that is whar Delecour had, and went for a concervative tyrechoice.

That non of the intermediate drivers went off is amazing, but good work from them, in an frustrating situation. Hanninen and Solberg took a gamble to win, but lost, and took it like men !

This is almost like old classic rallying, that we had before the sprint format WRC and IRC has today, where you had to think as well as driving, not only pedal to the metal all the time. This is only happening in MC, and that TV production was exiting and will become a classic in my book.

Both.
But the 2nd is just for today results

Solberg told autosport in the last service that he is prepared to gamble with the tire choice and that it's his only chance to win because he doesn't believe he can take back 50 secs from Hanninen by driving.

So he took the risk.... and seems to me like Hanninen just followed and Kopecky was told to follow? During same service Hanninen told autosport that he only fears Solberg for the win, so maybe he was too fixed on his tirechoice. That said I can't understand why Kopecky took 2 extra intermedias when he had 4 on. Sure tirewear is not that great issue when it's around 0 degrees?

Škoda usually use gearbox with top speed 171 on tarmac. Peugeot usually use 175, sometimes 165. Škoda used to have shorter 1-2-3 and longer 4-5-6 (Ford even more) but that may have changed through the time.
