Here's the photo uncropped.
Would help to attach photo.
I don't know, those "mountians" look like the dump you can see from the Meadowlands!! (just joking - not sure you can actually see one from there).... :D
I will defer to Phoenix. Miami would have been my first guess anyway, but I remembered seeing all those Nissan banners in previous LV pics.Quote:

Your Turn.
I know about 1981 - what other wins would he not have??
I thought I read somewhere that the bottom line in the 1981 case was that Andretti didthe same thing (passing under yellow while blending in) that Unser did so they would both get penalized and the finishing order would bethe same.... (not taking sides here...)
back in a minute with a picture...

The Indy 500's in question were 1972 with Mark Donohue. USAC was scoring Gary Bettenhausen as Donohues car and there was a difference in laps and Parnelli team thought that Donohue was behind. Penske backed by Goodyear was declared the winner at midnight. Al Unser would have to wait 6 years before No.3 win.Quote:

hmmm, I forgot about the 2002 race and never knew about 1972 - interesting.... Thank for the info!!

You got it! It had a Chevy turbo engine for a bit of a twist on the stock block theme....
your turn!!
Ok, let's try something slightly different. This isn't a CART/Champ Car picture, but the driver is a former Indy racer and a legend in dirt racing. I want his name :
Is that Johnnie Parsons?
No.
Mel Kenyon
Still no.
Sheldon Kinser
Yes, it's the late Sheldon Kinser!
I noticed his name while I was doing some research on the Pete Hasmer picture and it rang familiar to me, because I enjoy dirt racing too. Motors TV is broadcasting these days a World of Outlaws event in New Zealand and there are two members of the Kinser family in the race (including Sheldon's cousin, Steve).
Here's a truly amazing fact about Sheldon Kinser's Indy career :
Six time starter of the Indianapolis 500, [...] Sheldon had never driven a rear engine car or raced on pavement until he quailified 26th and finished 12th in the 1975 Indianapolis 500.
It was a little bit of a brain tweak with so many Champcar/Sprint car drivers. I was reading an article about Kinser and he was an amazing driver. So many drivers back then came from dirt track backgrounds even 2 time CART Champ Al Unser Jr. Imagine how many it would be now if USAC had went to the rear engine sprinters.Quote:

I can't wait to guess one. I just gotta post this. Sometimes we forget where this series might have been going previous to TG deciding to commit business hara-kiri. http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52804
