The planning for Rally of Scotland is well underway with the Road Books, Rally Guide, Time cards etc. all at the printers ready for the IRC competitors arriving in Stirling on Monday 16th November. This is the first year of a minimum 3 year agreement with Event Scotland, Perth & Kinross and Stirling Councils as well as the IRC promoters, Eurosport Events.
The deadline for entries has been extended by 4 days to accommodate the extra entries that are expected for this new event. This has been a tough year for everyone financially and the last two weekends have seen the conclusion of the British Rally Championship, the Scottish Rally Championship, the Sanremo Rally and entries close for Rally GB. Meaning that people are only now getting round to the UK’s newest International.
Kris Meeke is keen to make this event his celebration on claiming the Championship only 9 days ago in Sanremo. He will be taking on his 3 Kronos Racing team mates, Abarth look like sending a two car entry, Proton are also talking about running a second car, Rene George will have some exciting news with Skoda, plus some other privateer Skodas, Honda are sending 3 cars, Franz Wittmann has already announced his participation and Hankook are wanting to capitalise on their first year in Scotland as a sponsor with a big event. On top of this there are entries from Hungary and France.
At the weekend Mark Higgins stated that he would be back in Perth for Rally of Scotland. The Top 3 Group N winners in the Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship all have entries, as do the winners in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy, Citroen C2R2 Cup and Suzuki Swift Challenge. On top of this there is the biggest prize of all, the BF Goodrich Driver’s Team car.
Rally of Scotland also has the team that started rallying in Scotland 40 years ago on the Scottish; the Armed Forces Land Rover team and all the competitors in the National B section on the Saturday. All this and 4 hours of live television on Eurosport, highlights every day, spectacular locations for the stages and service.
The event IS going ahead; this will be a fantastic show and competition, with many very exciting items still to be announced. And there is always the sight of Jim Mcrae back out in the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth that won the Scottish in 1988.
