Whether this changes the approach to fines by the FIA is another story.

It's not about allowing swearing. It's a protest against these abnormal fines. When a rider comes from a stage, adrenaline is at its peak and accidentally says a bad word, it has to be understandable. This gagging of riders is not ok, we all want to get genuine emotion from riders after a stage. But we can't do that if they have to think about every word they say. They are living the sport, they are fighting for their dreams and if something happens during the stage, they need to keep it and stay full focus. I’m with the drivers, if you are going to stick a microphone under someone’s nose 15s after a stage where who knows what has happened in the name of entertainment, then don’t be surprised if a few choice words come out.
In a controlled environment like a press conference or service park when the adrenaline has calmed down, then sure, nobody should be using bad language.
Same in F1, if they are going to broadcast the pit to car radio, then that should be off limits as in their case, they are actually still competing.

If I remember correctly it started there, in F1, and transitioned in WRC. I don't get it why they focus so much on very fragile sport right now, whn the hings could go down so fast and destroy that little WRC have, soul and will to continue.
