GOT CLOCKED PRETTY WELL BY SOME mORON WHILE RIDING MY SCOOTE

by some freakin' genius who ran a red left turn arrow and turned left into me like he never saw me, but in reality he tried to beat a yellow light but was way too late, and he hit the intersection when his turn signal was already red. I was transported stat to Mercy Hospital with serious pelvic, hip, and right hand contusions. The worst of the worst is A serious knee injury, currently the size of a large pineapple. I guess I had it coming. I had a battery of 18 x-rays and at least no broken bones. However my bike is pretty wasted.

The sheriffs’ accident investigation team was on the scene before the Ambulance. They do a very thorough job in Lemon Grove. All specific information about the other driver is in my case file at the sheriff’s office for my claims agent to go to work with.
Right now I’d be in really intense pain if I wasn’t given a generous script for Percocet :batman:

Mr Alca-Tazizzle, I hope you feel better soon. :) Although to a much lesser degree I felt your pain this summer when I was riding my bike and a taxi overtook and immediately turned left into me. Going head and face first into the ground at 20mph is not recommended by myself. :( Hope you are back on your feet and get your scooter fixed soon. :)

No, in this country we don't arrest people for being Morons (it's the morons doing the arresting ;) ). He was declared to be sober, simply claimed "he didn't notice that the lights had changed", and never saw me, but more importantly, he is fully insured. There was no malice of intent on his behalf, but when everything comes out in the wash, this event will likely give him enough points to lose his license for a while unless he has an otherwise spotless record which I seriously doubt.

@ Starter you are correct sir. It hurts much worse this morning. I have pain in both shoulders that just arrived when I woke up this morning.

Thanks to all I am overwhelmed by all the well wishes. I just needed a place to vent.
BTW I'm really glad god created opioids for situations like this. Hopefully I will not need them by the end of the weekend.

That is sad to read. I hope your recovery is swift and not overly painful. If you're on painkillers make sure you drink a lot of liquids (not alcohol) to prevent constipation.

You can bet the idiot that ran the light had done it before. Do you have camera's on your traffic lights? If you have you will probably get a decent settlement which of course is secondary to your health.

This one does not have any cameras, but when the sheriff’s investigator visited me at the hospital he said that the Public Transit Bus behind me has one that was running as well as the two businesses on the side of the street where it happened. They told me it will take three weeks until they present an official; report.

Glad to hear you're relatively all right and I hope the knee goes down.

Sorry to hear this. On the positive side:
(a) You're alive
(b) No broken bones
(c) You have a positive ID on the driver
(d) The sheriff's dept are on the case and on your side
(e) He's insured (although insurance companies employ lawyers, it's better than you having to sue an individual who probably hasn't the wherewithal to pay)

Percocets and bran muffins !

I saw an Orthopedic specialist this morning and she was quite adamant that I keep my injuries elevated when I'm resting, and though as ugly as it looks nothing is fractured so she gave me a ton more pain killers, and tried to impress on me, that the Motrin is much more crucial to my injuries than the pain killers, so don't stop taking those, and to my surprise she said that when I am not resting to exercise the joint as much as I can within reason so that my tendons and ligaments don't lose their memory as the muscles around my knee will atrophy and I'll be really screwed. I'm going back to work tomorrow, BUT Very Light Duty Only!!!!
Don't know how long I'll last though!

No! I could go on disability, but that only pays me a fraction of my normal income. Actually beside the reasons I've stated for me wanting to work, I think some of you have overlooked the part I mentioned about my orthopedic specialist telling me that activity like working around a busy office is exactly what she wants me to do to keep the ligaments, and muscles around my knee from (ligaments) losing their memory and (muscles) from atrophying in my quadriceps, and calf in particular..
If I chose to I could go at least a year without drawing an income and it wouldn't have a substantial effect on me financially. No reason to suck life out of ”The Great State of California” on this one, I've already won! :angel:

It makes perfect sense that your orthopedic specialist told you to keep moving. When I hurt ligaments in my ankle a couple of years ago I always found that getting up in the morning was the worst. I would wake up and limp around until the muscles had loosened enough for me to walk propely. I still coundn't wear heels for a year but you probably wont have such problems. :p Moving around helps limits to some extent the injury from morphing into other bigger ailments. For example my ancke injury travelled up the leg and resulted in knee pain as the knee was conpensating for the dodgy ankle. Your dodgy knee may easily travel up to the hip if you dont help yourself to a certain degree.

:stareup: Thanks GG, you have been most helpful. I must admit that I'm a little surprised at the agressive nature of my treatment, but this Dr. is very adament about doing it this way. She is very thorough, and am completely comforftable with her plan!

Taz , they had me walking right off the gurney a few years ago when they went into my knee with the arthroscope(sp) .
It's a good idea for sure , to keep moving .

But , it's also a good moment in time to milk it .

A little sympathy can result in things like massage , and favourite foods being served .
Make sure you give yourself some time to heal . Hee hee .

We all lament the fact that lawyers feed at troughs like this , but this is where the profession is redeemed , when real damage is done .
Remember that the moron won't cough the money . You're now fighting his insurance company , and they have lots of it .
Liability might be obvious in this case , but they will go to great lengths to pay less .

Essentially , what I'm saying is that this isn't the time to be too macho , dude .
If you are hurting , let those around you know it .

If someone asks how you are doing , tell them , even at the risk of sounding like a whiner , because a witness can be anyone you meet . There's money at stake .

Around here personal lawsuits against another insured driver is not permitted. That’s what the insurance is for.
