I absolutely agree, it is impossiblle to follow the commentary because he gets it wrong at every mouthful. Sack him and lets have Simon Hill and Richard John Neill for the rest of the season.Quote:

I know Tim didn't want to go to Oulton Park, but why wasn't he present for Croft? http://smileyicons.net/smilies/930.gif Maybe the duo of Tim and Simon would be great. http://smileyicons.net/smilies/457.gif Or maybe we need to yank Ben away from F1 and drag him back to the commentator's box for the rest of the BTCC season! http://smileyicons.net/smilies/502.gifQuote:

Moody was really bad yesterday, and really pissed me off when he kept on saying it didnt matter after he had made a mistake! Sort it out!
Oh I totally agree. It's a phenomenally difficult job, and like any job those who are good at it make it look easy. Anybody who thinks otherwise should try it themselves: stick a race on the telly and commentate along out loud - I can pretty much guarantee you'll flounder after a few minutes.Quote:

Hopefully he'll relax into the role and turn out ok, but I fear his days are numbered.
But what I dont get is that he is so good at Moto GP and can pick any rider out of a 30 bike, Moto 3 field, yet cant get bugger all right in the BTCC!
Maybe he's simply not interested enough, not immersed enough, in it. This would explain much.Quote:

I agree with all of the above, however he is not as bad as the idiots on ESPN doiong the DTM. I have now stopped watching the DTM because of the commentary.
Ben Edwards has always been my favourite commentator since his CART/champ car days on Eurosport. He makes any series sound exciting.
I rarely even take a glimpse at the DTM anymore, it's glory days are gone, and unlike F1 this season, which has re-gained it's former glory, the addition of the BMW and top-10 points-scores doesn't seem to have done much. The DTM is awful, and the commentary is oh-so-terrible. What a sleaze-fest. Even with Moody, I don't think the BTCC is that bad. http://www.motorsportforums.com/images/icons/spin2.gifQuote:

That seems the most likely explanation.Quote:

Almost everything else suggest otherwise. And just because the commentary that you hear is bad, it doesn't mean that it all is in all territories or indeed that the racing series is bad!Quote:

What I did suggest is that the commentary is a little part of deducts from it's quality, not that it is the main cause for destroying the series.Quote:

Just watched the Croft highlights. Goodness, Toby Moody was poor. Getting Neate and Plato confused in the latter stages, having just commentated on Plato taking the lead from Neate, really isn't good enough. I know it's very easy to criticise commentators and that they have a hard job to do, but there are limits.
I used to watch DTM highlights about 10 years ago and remember it being quite good racing, I was certainly surprised to see it had got so bad at the A1 Ring the other week. I don't think it helps that the races are so long and the camera positions so poor, plus the directing is awful and seems to flip about from car to car without really concentrating on anyone, never really lets you get a true idea of what's happening.Quote:

In no way do I think that incident was anything to get excited about. On the contrary — it was disgraceful.Quote:

Psssssst: Neil Armstrong died yesterday. Idiot.
Oh, no. How could those at ITV responsible for sport listen to that and think, 'Yes, he's the best we can get.'Quote:

On a semi-related note, Jason Plato has rarely spoken more sense than during the first in-race interview he did with Louise in race one ;)
Toby was useless again, as were the DTM commentators on ESPN yesterday.
I do believe there is someone out there who can do abetter job even Jeremy Clarkson. At least if he made an inappropriate comment you would know he was joking where as Toby is just an idiot.
In Moody's defence, there was a brief 15 minute period in which he didn't once mention Chris Hoy. :p
"Maybe there'll be an olympic tear on the podium!"
Never mind the commentary — the direction was appalling, especially at the start of race one during which every incident was missed.
As usual then. Looks as though ITV are not throwing any money in this direction. Let's face it, anyone on here that knows anything about the BTCC could do a better job than Toby and the less said about the camera coverage the better. I suppose i should just be grateful the best racing series is shown on tv at all.
I have only had the misfortune of one meeting on the TV this year having been lucky enough to be trackside for the rest, however, I too am sick of hearing "lights ablaze" and all the drivers names announced in elongated fashion! Really think it's probably time for a change!
I agree - I have been watching bttc for the last 6 years and have loved it - but have had to stop watching it this year as the current commentary has spoilt it for me - a real shame :mad:Quote:

Just watched the coverage — much better from Toby today.
Perhaps he has been reading this thread :P They still missed when Plato slowed down and pulled off, i could clearly see it but they didn't until the cameras actually properly showed it. Maybe i'm being to harsh.
That one is a bit harsh, as I couldn't have told you which MG it was - as Neate had not long rejoined and was in danger of going a lap down (or already lapped, can't recall). Certainly, I was concentrating more on the action than the commentary yesterday, which is a good sign on both counts.
No more Toby Moody on the BTCC. His replacement is David Addison.
