From the pressrelaese from Team Olsbergs MSE , Sweden:
"
The two-Fiesta cars Olsberg Motor Sport Evolution set up with will be driven by rallycross star Andreas Eriksson and rally-legend Marcus Grönholm in the "Unlimited" class at the 19.3 kilometers long asphalt and gravel track with 156 curves.
Team rallycross-Fiesta is based on the entirely new Fiestan. The cars are four-wheel drive and is equipped with a Ford 2.0-liter Duratec engine of over 800 horsepower.
Rallycross-Fiestans suspension has been developed through a collaboration between Olsberg Motor Sport Evolution, Ohlin and Ford Europe's Team RS engineers, responsible for Ford's WRC car.
- "We worked day and night all winter to get Fiestan ready in time for the European championships and it was nice that it got a well deserved victory in Portugal in early May," said Eriksson. "We think it's exciting to take the car to the Pike's Peak and see what it can perform in such a unique race. This is a legendary event and we have already been and looked at the challenges we will face. I am convinced that Fiestan will belong to the top of the battle to beat the 10-minute record and that the car will make a good racing debut in the U.S.. "

Another name for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is "Race to the clouds". ;)Quote:

yeah cars are 600bhp modified fiesta,s but basic model can be used for outings in Rally America championship later in year, i believe that is plan, also team what to break record which stands at 10mins 01 sec and do it in nine minutes!!!!!!!!!!! hmmmmmmmmm tall order , but lets hope so :)
Nine minutes are possibly somewhat confusing… The 9 should just stay in front of the new course record time they are focussing, therefore 9:59:999mins would be enough – if "Monster" Tajima (current record holder), British RX veteran Mark Rennison (Ford RS200 'Mach2') or any of those guys in a PPIHC 'Open Wheeler' are not faster.
I understood that both Fiesta engines should produce about 800bhp at the start (2862m) and still about 500bhp at the Finish/Summit (4301m). In that case they must have at least between 900 and 1000bhp at sea level…
If the Fiesta is any good, Bosse should break the record easily...
However the Suzuki is highly developed for this race so who knows...
Easily? Nothing can be done easily at the Pikes Peak!
Course record can only be broken, by whoever, if weather and track is perfect.
And the weather is hardly ever perfect, as evidenced by the 90+ degrees F at the start line last year...Quote:

Yep, only one run, that’s right! And practice is split up into 3 parts of the track in 3 days. Rain, hailstorm, snow, all can happen up there, even in July.Quote:

Great event though. Are they still talking about paving the rest of the course Kevin?
Lucky you..! ;)Quote:

It's written an article on erc24.com(paysite) And there it says that these 2 cars are built alongside the rallycross car of Eriksson, with the same bodyshell, similar basic structure, but with different suspension, transmission and most off all the engine.. The Pikes Peak Fiesta will also have some larger aerofoils then the RX car..Quote:

They are definitely still talking about more paving, there was some question as to how much they would do this year with the cost and availability of the high altitude polymer asphalt but it seems as though some more will be paved...
I'm an editor of ERC24, but mainly working for the RX history part of the webside. All our info was given by Andréas E. himself to my friend/counterpart Tim W. of ERC24. With a modified RX car one don't need to go to the PPIHC for braking the course record these days. See the current 'Open Category' record, done in 2000 by Per Eklund with a Saab 9-3 Viggen that was pretty much further developed than his Saab 9-3 ERC of the same year. Nearly one and a half minutes slower than that current 'Unlimited Category' record done by "Monster" Tajima in 2007… To brake the 10 mins barrier one needs to have a prototype thing built for nothing else but Pikes Peak.Quote:

And for those who never heard about "Renny" before:

Wonder if "Monster" Tajima will not take part this year and if Grönholm and Eriksson will take passengers up to the Summit…

I don't know about the co-drivers.
Maybe they want the option to run them, utilize them for practice and see how the times and driver comfort level is? I know JEMBA has the virtual co-driver set up available for PPIHC (Stig used it a couple of years ago if memory serves).
Pikes Peak isn't a terribly taxing route to learn now that they have added some guard rails but without a lot of pseudo practice it very well could be that both drivers feel that with a co-driver they can run better lines as they won't have to remember the course in as much detail...
