Thirty-five years after the last edition in which it featured, and thanks to the determination and organisational efforts of the Rally Islas Canarias – Rally de España, the classic Gran Canaria route is back on the map, chosen as the venue for a WRC (World Rally Championship) event for the first time.
This is a new milestone in the history of the Circuito Islas Canarias, which will host a completely new stage, consisting of 2.60 timed kilometres, laid out from start to finish on asphalt. This is a complete novelty for a track with almost half a century of history, where competition has traditionally taken place on gravel.
In keeping with the tradition of the Race of Champions and Formula Rally of yesteryear, the vehicles will start in pairs and compete side by side on the BP Ultimate – Circuito Islas Canarias show stage, the first stage of the 50th Rally Islas Canarias – Rally de España.
Tickets for the public will go on sale next Friday, 2 January, via the official website of the event.
There was a rumour last year of using Tenerife too, can that be ruled out?
Also, tickets?
