It's not a three hour break. SS5 starts at 9.01. It takes about 15 minutes for the crews to complete it. Then there's a one hour liaison

It seems plan was that no rally car will be on stage between 6pm and 6am. Plus 50 cars will arrive to Monte Carlo on Saturday before 6pm.
Maybe there are other issues we, as spectators, can't think of. For example, maybe the plane needs time to go back, land, refuel and take-off again.
