The price of the S2000 R is starting to get a lot of attention.

Can anyone point in the right direction of where FIA has written something on this in the regulations, and does it say what you are to get for that maxprice, of as far as I know 168 000 Euro.

When people are saying that you have to pay btw 250 and 300 000 for a S2000 with both suspensions, ready to go - that is a long way off the maxprice.

Hopefully the maxprice is there for a reason....

Neither me don’t understand the logic of FIA. First they was talking about 150.000 € and finally 168.000 €. But, this is the maximum price for the S2000 kit (parts). The difference between 250k –300k is probably the price for the standard car and the work to assemble the kit. In the homologations regulations (paragraph 7.13) is written: “The maximum price of a car that is ready to race (i.e. as presented at the start for rallies on asphalt) must not exceed 150,000 Euros (before taxes).” Nowadays the price is of course 168.000 euros.

The homologations regulations attachment is not the one found on the web page of FIA.

Hmm interesting reading, since this is the current regulation posted on the FIA webpage. Nothing as far as I could see on maxprice at all.

Who has made it go away, manufacturers, or ??
Anyone with good ideas, since this is a bit strange !

There are two different regulations for different groups (N, A, WRC, S2000). The one I posted as an attachment is the “homologation regulations for the S2000”. The one found on the FIAs web site is the “specific regulations for S2000”.

In the homologation regulations (Article 7) it’s defined what can be homologated and what are the restrictions. If you compare for example the pistons, you can see that in the homologation regulations the min. weight of the pistons are 350 g. In the specific regulations (5.1.4 c pistons) it is written: “The piston must be homologated in Super 2000-Rallies Kit Variant”. I interpret this as that the one who is homologates the car (manufacturer = Fiat, Pug & Pirtek = Fiesta & Local dealer / manufacturer in South-Africa = VW and Toyota) knows that the minimum weight of the pistons that are allowed to use is 350g with a minimum of three rings, otherwise the shape is free, so they make a piston that fill this requirement. The team and / or driver who are reading the specific regulations know that the piston has to be homologated, so they order from the manufacturer at least 4 homologated pistons.

I was also looking at the FIAs web site to figure out where are the regulations which tells that the maximum price for the S2000 car is 168.000 € but couldn’t find anything. But in the beginning of the article 254A is written: “meets the requirements of the homologations regulations for Super 2000-Rallies”. I started to “google” for homologations regulations and at last I found it on this web site: http://www.rallystar.co.za/article/articleview/2605/1/1/

I’m sure that the same regulations also exist for the other groups (N, A, WRC) but they are not public information (at least I haven’t manage to find any). The other that I found is for the WTCC cars (Super 2000 on circuit).

Homologations regulations S2000 circuit (not found on the FIAs web site): http://www.autourheilu.fi/attachements/2004-02-02T13-19-002.pdf

Specific regulations S2000 circuit (can be found on the FIAs web site): http://www.autourheilu.fi/attachements/2004-02-02T11-57-272.pdf

So, my conclusion is that the “specific regulations” is free for anyone but the “homologations regulations” are only for manufacturers etc.

Now I think is time to go and have a sleep, good night.
