Rocketsports owner Paul Gentilozzi believes his new hiring can fight at the front.

“We’re very excited to have Enrique joining us,” he stated. “It’s great to have a driver signed up early enough for him to do all pre-season testing. Enrique’s been linked with top F1 teams and knows a lot about open-wheel racing. Certainly he has the potential to win many races in Champ Car.”

Welcome Enrique on a personal level but oh dear what a typical Paul G string signing. " Linked with top F1 teams " He must think we are all stupid.

Hell, Pizzonia drove in F1 and stunk it up in his wanna-be porn cars.

"Linked with top F1 team"

He must think we are all stupid.

To be fair, he did say that Bernoldi's "been" linked, not "is" linked.

He was an Arrows driver in 2001, but I'm sure he tested for BAR-Honda since then.

I think that's what Gentilozzi was implying.

he did in 2004 and tested for sauber before joining arrows.

His claim to fame is, while driving for Arrows, holding up then-McLaren driver David Coulthard at Monaco for many laps. It was a pretty impressive performance for Enrique.

So now the CCWS has, what, five confirmed drivers?

I wouldn't say it was so much 'impressive' for Bernoldi as embarrassing for Coulthard.

His main claim to fame was shagging Martina Hingis.

But then again, who hasn't?

Is Hingis noted for being the town bicycle? I didn't know that? Tell me more--here in the US we don't get the scoop!

I rate Bernoldi - good to see him back in single seaters, although how competitive the ride will be I don't know, either way it's good to have some non-political BS to talk about on here :D

It was actually Jelena Dokic.

Paul answered some questions on another forum-

"I have several questions: will you go to a two car team this year? Plus did TG offer you free chassis to switch to his series?"

"The questions I can answer.

The second car will only happen if it is the right deal. I will no longer limp in with a second car that hurts the first. We are working hard on it and have some real potential, for now it is just not a deal.

The famed free car offer actually goes back to a 2005 letter, don't believe everything you read from "unofficial sources".

The only reason to talk about it is to take away from the good things in life, the start of another season in Champ Car."

If this kid doesn't win in the first few races, how soon do you think it will be before PG throws this guy to the curb? :)

I never understood the hatred towards PG. Everyone knows he's not the next Carl Haas or Roger Penske but what has he done to you guys?

Those who have had dealings with him are the ones who run a mile. Ask Dan Petit. They merged the teams, RuSport found a mass of equipment they had "lent " to Rocketsport was not being returned. The invoice that was then raised of approx $400,000 was not paid, not a cent. Tag was not being paid either at the time. He is a bully shouting at people. I have never heard good things about him from those who know. Others here will be able to give you more reasons. His cars are usually crap also and I guess that is the calibre of his team who are probably underpaid but are know down the pit lane as the 9 to 5 guys. They do not really break a sweat.

It's all about Trans Am.

Trans Am was on it's death bed before PG agreed to sponsor the series for one more year. A few Trans Am lovers expected PG to bank roll the series perminatly but that was never in the cards for Paul.

Paul Gentilozzi rose to the fore beginning in 1998 with his first championship in Trans-Am. He would win four more championships, his latest in 2006, driving a Chevrolet, Ford, and Jaguar. Then he broke Mark Donohue win record which sent more Trans Am fans into a frenzy.

You had me all the way up to this statement. Donohue won his races against factory teams from Ford, Plymouth, Dodge, and Pontiac. Also against some of the best American drivers of the day like Gurney, Follmer, Revson, Hall, and Titus.

PG won his against fields mostly made up of SCCA club racers and very small budget teams.

If you consider the competition, then must put the same question mark on the IRL's participation in the I500 along with the Cheever win.

The I500 wins will not be asterisked and neither will PG's Trans Am record.

I won't even comment on Mike's next post comparing to the I500 as this is not the IRL forum...But to address the PG wins in his Johnson Controls/Jaguar days, he had more than half a dozen instances where disqualifications of other drivers and weird rule changes brought about by PG had much to do with the feeling about PG manipulating the outcome from some people. Starter, Boris Said, Tommy Kendall and Scotty Pruett are not exactly club racers. That's not to say that PG wasn't a good driver, but he definitely went to a questionable level to win and he has always been a bully.

But a lot of people's experience with PG goes beyond Trans Am...ask any vendor he deals with in CCWS...he gets parts on COD only for a reason.

Boris and Tommy drove, and won in, his (PG's) cars as well as some others. Of those three, the only one I rate highly is Kendall. The other two, good, not great. Compare them to Revson, Gurney and Donohue who ran in, and between them either won or were very competitive in F1, CanAm, TransAm, Indy cars, NASCAR and F5000 (Revson not in the last two). The strength of the old TransAm fields were also much higher front to back then in Paul's winning days.

No one ever proved anything about his rules manipulation, but there were sure some strong suspicions around that subject.

Agreed on most points...the proof of PG's meddling was there, it just didn't make it out as most outspoken wanted to keep racing :)
