Grooved tires

A set of grooved Goodyear tires in Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s garage created a buzz Tuesday.
The tires, which are the same specifications as the race tires teams lease from Goodyear, are set-up tires which teams can use when pushing the car through the garage en route to inspection, thus saving wear on their race tires. (1-16-2008)
Whats this all about then? Whats the "buzz"?

Well it would be a shame if one of the race tires gets while the car is being moved in the garage area.
