Hope there isn't already a thread about this somewhere.

I went for the first time yesterday and was quite disappointed with the whole thing. Was expecting a few more trade stands to poke through and buy all sorts of interesting things. Also thought the live show was a travesty. Stupid music at a horrible volume and flashing lights with a series of cars doing a few lap 'race' and diasappearing. To be honest it seemed like a very sanitised, watered down presentation of club motorsport that could have been done far better.

Was also disappointed to see that the map of the show had a 'Colin McRea Tribute Stand'. The bloke's dead at least try to spell his name right.

I'm sure a number of people really enjoy the show but for me I'd much rather be out on the stages.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Autosport disappointment :D . Been there, done that, 5 times!

Actually I think there are too many 'trade' stands to just sell things for racecars, I mean how many people there actually run race cars?

Probably more than we think, or most of the suppliers wouldn't come back year after year! I dare say a lot of them do business on the Thursday and Friday before the great unwashed arrive in search of things that have wheels or short skirts attached...

Personally I enjoyed it yesterday, even if £28 is a little steep, and I thought the Live Action Arena was much improved from my last visit (in about 2005) thanks to greater emphasis on actual racing; the acoustics were awful though, and John Hindhaugh occasionally sounded as though he was on helium...

It was also nice to be able to see some supercars there; I wasn't sure about the Pistonheads element before I went, but the fact that you can get up close to the machines makes it a lot better than the old Motor Show days, when anything over about £50k was guarded by somebody in a suit looking down his nose at you.

Just back from weekend at the Autosport Show. I was up there Displaying our Race cars on the Ford Racing stand.

Lots of mixed reviews on the show, Sat was very busy and i have never seen so many people waiting to get in. Sunday though was very quiet. The costing is alot, and putting the car park up aswell. But people generally like this show.

Here are some pictures of Craig Rainer / Steve Kings Wealden Racing Cars

Last time I went was about two years ago and it all seemed a bit... "chavvy"?

5 TIMES?!! I've been once and won't repeat the visit. As for people running race cars, why do you think I was disappointed not to have more trade stands ;) Had a list of stuff as long as your arm we needed to get by only came away with about half of it.

To be fair I think I only went once just for the sake of it, the rest was specifically to meet up with people from the forums, and the show was more of a backdrop to that.

I would have thought buying online would be the best option. Trade shows don't seem a good arena to be buying those sorts of products.

Price was competetive and with stuff like racing suits and helmets it's best to try it on. Also most of the other stuff we wanted to be able to see, nothing worse than buying online and finding out it's wrong when it arrives in the post. Plus it's easier to get a deal. For example at Demon Tweeks we were after 2 helmets and a suit and were able to get a few quid knocked off plus the helmets posted to us free of charge and no VAT. If my Dad hadn't blown the guts out of the car on the way home it would have been a good value trip.
