1. Ireland

2. New Zealand

3. Canada

4. Australia

5. Switzerland

6. Italy

7. Fiji

8. Scotland

9. Holland

10. Germany

I am not surprised by Ireland's 1st place but where are France and Spain ? Scotland in 8th pos is a great surprise :D And I expected a better position for Italy :p :

Ireland is okay, but last time I was there the lady at the car hire desk was just downright rude and the hotel staff were rather offhand :s . I got a better reception in Northern Ireland.

Spain by contrast, everyone was very welcoming. Everyone was friendly in France too, despite them having a reputation for being grumpy drawers :p

Scotland, like all places it depends where you go, south side of Glasgow is not so welcoming :p

Spain should be in there I'd have thought, always found the Spanish are great people. As for the French I'm not so sure, I tend to find that a lot of them are rude and unhelpful even when you try to speak their language.

Canada is so welcoming that I barely saw a Canadian, most the people seem to be from other countries.

Was it in Aberdeen where Knock-on got beaten up?

Just been thinking about this. Is the reason that England isn't on their because it's an American study and we generally don't like the Yanks or are we just unwelcoming to everyone. I reckon it's the latter :D

Switzerland welcoming? You've got to be joking.

Fiji welcoming? Yes that's right! When they're having a coup or some sort of civil unrest :mark:

Note sure what is meant by "welcoming" but we had a great time in France, and we felt right at home in Australia :)

The whole point of these polls is to stoke debate, but if you think it's a crock, that's fine, but say why.

I just think that a survey such as this should be an International panel, rather than just one countries survey. A country may welcome people from one nation with welcome arms, but may not treat others as nicely. I didn't want to offend anyone by my last 2 posts, but just pointing out that 1 persons pleasure is another persons poison. I hope you understand what I mean.

There's a distinctive lack of Mediterranean countries on that list... I thought we were more welcoming than that...

I'd agree with number 6 - Italy!

Went there two years ago to Sorrento on the Neopolitian Riveria. Waiter smiled and said hello whenever he saw on outside the hotel, ussually him parking his scooter up.

Then on the 2nd to last day, went into small local shop to buy wine to take home and shopkeeper gave us a free sweet. I think its because we tried to speak Italian!

Love Italy so much going back this year to Lake Garda.

Love Italy so much going back this year to Lake Garda.

It's a lovely place, well recommend it and it's not too far away from Venice or Verona by coach or car :)

My family went there and we went on some coach trips around and was quite surprised to hear the guides talking about how good Mussolini was and what he did. Maybe not great if you're a socialist :p :

 I would have to say that China is one of the friendliest countries to visit. Sure, it's not perfect, with the pollution etc, but everywhere I go here, people want to chat to me, and always pass on good wishes, and are eager to help how they can. Most people I meet, ask where I am from. When I say that i am from Australia, they get very excited and say how beautiful it is in Australia, and want to talk about OZ. It's a great feeling, that people show such interest, and are so kind.
