Christian Andresen will start at Mountain Rally next saturday with a Bozian-Peugeot 307 WRC. So far they have only a budget for the first round but they are working with their sponsors.

http://www.norsk-rally.com/modules/module_123/proxy.aspx?D=2&C=2&I=5126

In Mountain Rally so far we have these WRC-drivers: Mads Østberg(Subaru Impreza WRC S10), Anders Grøndal(Subaru Impreza WRC S10), Andreas Mikkelsen(Ford Focus WRC06), Conrad Rautenbach(Ford Focus WRC05), Christian Selmer(Ford Focus WRC) and Christian Andresen(Peugeot 307 WRC).

There are rumours that one more WRC-car with a topdriver will have a late entry...

But only two favourite for the win, Mads Ostberg and Anders Grondal who already drove their Subarus this year... :mark:

You can add Morten Østberg (Subaru Impreza WRC), Egil Bentzen (Subaru Impreza WRC), Bernard Kongsrud (Mitsubishi Evo 6.5 WRC), plus Pelle Erland Mitsubishi Evo 6 Group A. On top of that there is still possibility for two further drivers in WRC-cars, one of them a very well known figure...

VFTS
9th January 2008, 14:31
I am not sure, but after what I know the car of Bernhard Kongsrud is not a WRC car, but a group A-car.

Mitsubishi didnt make any WRC-car before the Evo7??? Correct me if I am wrong.

Eyvind and Anders Brynildsen are not brothers.

Thomas Schie will not be in the Mountain Rally?

VFTS

Schie didnt manage to make a WRCcar-budget for the whole norwegian championship. He are trying to sell his Focus03

The rumours say that he will compete later in the season.

You are actually wrong. The car is a proper WRC car. Mitsubishi homologated a Evo 6.5 WRC as a sort of interim car before they launched the 7 model. Kongsruds car is one of those few.

A very nice car according to the codriver ;-)

VFTS

VFTS
12th January 2008, 11:10

Rumours may not be way off the mark...Anyway great entry for Rally Finnskog with ten WRC cars. But Linnerud, Kongsrud and Kvam still with TBA`s
instead of named cars. Great interest to see continued battle between Andreas Mikkelsen and Mads Østberg, this time on proper winter conditions. Even if some of the stages in Rally Finnskog is very close to Värmland/Sweden the conditions are reported to be much better.

I am looking forward to my 21st Rally Finnskog, as I have done them all since the first time in 1986 with Roger Sandberg in a Ford Escort RS Turbo. How times have changed...

Tord Linnerud is testing his Skoda Fabia WRC 07 today in preparations for Rally Finnskog on saturday. Bernhard Kongsrud is also testing a Fabia - and will be driving Finnskog with the car. Kongsrud is the man behind the purchase of the two Skodas from Kopeckys team. Linnerud has an agreement to drive the rest of 08 in the Fabia, possibly also the 2009 season in the Norwegian championship. The second Fabia is also meant to be available for hire, both i the Norwegian championship and international events.

(Yours truly is looking forward to sampling Fabia-performance on saturday...!)

So Mikkelsen slightly faster than Östberg. Training with Grönholm has obviously paid off. I think that Mikkelsen is drivingat very impressive level cosidering his experience level. Östberg is also promising. We have to rememvber that Östberg's Subaru is remarkably slower than -06 Focus.

He said after the x-mas camp that he changed his driving style, turning in earlier and on the trottle earlier.

11 WRC cars entered for Numedalsrally saturday 1st of march, the third round of the norwegian championship. Berhard Kongsruds team has hired ut both the Mitsubishi Evo 6.5 WRC and the Ford Focus WRC, on top of running their two new Skoda Fabias for Tord Linnerud and Bernhard himself.

Everybody is looking forward to a new duel between Andreas Mikkelsen and Mads Østberg, on the fastest stage in the Norwegian championship. The 27 km "Smådøla" stage up in the mountains has a record set by Thomas Kolberg (Huyndai Accent WRC) with a average speed of 126,8 km/h. Its not certain that the average will be higher this time, as the stage now runs through a twisty autocross stage, but its not impossible as Andreas and Mads undeniably performs on a higher level than Thomas Kolberg did three years ago.

can you write something more about this rally? stage characteristics, etc, 'cause probably i'll visit this event...

Rally Sørland is run in the southermost part of Norway, based in the very nice coastal town of Mandal. It`s a two-day event with three stages on friday evening, and a further six on the saturday. All stages are north of Mandal in a hilly forest landcape with very good gravel roads.

It`s a very nice rally with the most technical and twisty gravel stages used in the norwegian championship. Normally we have lots of fast roads in norwegian rallying, but this is much more twisty and demanding. The roads winds their way trough a hilly landcape, lots of up and down and with the roads sometimes cut through narrow vallies and cliffs.

For a spectator its good too, because more or less all the stages have several access roads. Its absolutely possible to spectate at 3-4 stages + the service park during the rally.

You will find map, timeschedule etc. at http://www.rallysorland.no/

In norwegian championship rallies there are always recce with two runs through each stage. So you can choose to make your own pacenotes or buy organiser pacenotes and make your own corrections. In Rally Sørland the organiser pacenotes are made by former norwegian champion Roar Vannebo. In most other events, swede Bruno Berglund - among many other things former codriver of Ari Vatanen - is producing the notes. For some drivers this could be a "problem", as the Vannebo and Berglund notes are somewhat different. But both note systems are "static". This means that every corner is described/graded as it is without taking into consideration with the speed you are coming towards the corner.

Roar Vannebo used to run a Toyta Celica GT4 and a Celica 4WD ST185 in the 90`s and he was very successful on national level. Actually he is still partly active as he competed in the 2007 Rally Norway in a Honda Civic R. Codriver was yours truly...!

I think Grondal has a guaranteed third in the chmpionship, and every rally!

Christian Andresen is out of money and as it seems now he will do no more rallies in "the whale". Tord Linnerud has "fallen out of grace" with Bernhard Kongsrud and as I understand he is not doing any more events in the Fabia. A pity really, as he seemed to be in very good mood during the last winter event - and he is certainly a driver who possibly could have challenged Grøndal in the battle for 3rd.

Morten Østberg, the father of Mads, has surprised with rather good speed, but he is a veteran just doing the events for fun. Look out for Patrik Sandell, as he is rumoured to do more events in the Fabia. Bernhard Kongsrud himself, who owns both Fabias, chose to run a N4 Mitsu in Rally Sørland. With no luck really, as he hit a rock on the second stage and damaged his suspension putting him out of the rally. Possibly Bernhard is doing a couple of smaller sprint events in the Fabia (he won the tarmac sprint in Stavanger a few weeks ago), but I don`t think he will campaign the car himself in the remaining championship rounds. Bernhard has bought the cars to run a business with them, not to play around with the cars himself. Very expensive toys, really...

Saturday sees the fifth round of the Norwegian Championship, the Aurskog/Høland Rally. Anders Grøndal, currently 3rd in the WRC-klass behind Mads Østberg and Andreas Mikkelsen, switches to a Ford Focus WRC05 for this event after damaging his own Subaru S10 in a hillclimb event last sunday.

Grøndal, who became Norwegian Hillclimb Champion last year, started his hillclimb season in Trogstad last weekend. He duly won (overall) in the saturday event with a new course record, but in the first run on the sunday he went off-course and slammed into a rockface at 120 km/h. Anders was not hurt, but his car got extensive damage - and is now shipped to England for a very costly rebuild.

Steinar Mikkelsen, the father of Andreas, followed the hillclimb event on the internet from his home in Spain. When he read that Anders had crashed he immediately phoned to tell Anders that he could "loan" the Focus WRC05 that Andreas had campaigned in Britain in 06 and 07. So on saturday Anders Grøndal is competing in the Aurskog/Høland Rally in a Mikkelsen Focus, free of charge, courtesy of the father of one of his main rivals in the championship!

Great story, isn`t it - and it really tells that there is still some people with a whole heart in rallying. Steinar Mikkelsen is one of them!

On saturday(6.sept.) we have Rally Larvik. It is the only tarmac event in the championship. Mikkelsen (Focus07)will be the favourite in front of Østberg(Impreza S12b) and Grøndal(Impreza S10).

Guy Wilks will start in a downgraded Impreza N14 (N4). The car will be like "The Subaru Cup 2009" spec.

The norwegians N4-drivers are not used to tarmac so I am sure Wilks will beat them even with a downgraded car.

In the WRC/A8 class Andreas Mikkelsen is 12 points in front of Mads Østberg, if Østberg wins Andreas must be 3`rd or better to be champion.
The Norwegian WRC-drivers will also get an battle from superSwede Patrik Sandell. The former junior world champion is entered in a Skoda Fabia WRC, something he also did in the Rally Sørland earlier this year.

In N4 it is even closer, Martin Stenshorne is leading the championship, but he is only a poor point in front of a charging Sveinung Bieltvedt. Winner gets it all.

Disappointed to miss on championship

Andreas and Ola missed out on taking the Norwegian Rally Championship at the weekend (27 September) after finding out they had miscalculated the minimum finish required to secure the title.

Prior to the final round in Rally Hedmarken, the pair believed that with a 12 point lead they would take the championship even if rival Mads Østberg won the event, provided Mikkelsen were third. They took the rally cautiously as a result and aimed to bring the car home safely in that position. In actual fact Østberg's win and Andreas's third place put them on equal points in the championship standings. The rules state that the champion is decided on number of wins, and if those are also equal, then whichever driver has the better result in the last event becomes series champion.

Andreas and Ola celebrated "winning" the championship and believed Østberg had even congratulated them as they crossed the finish of the final stage. It was only fifteen minutes later that they got the devastating message that they had got it wrong and Østberg was indeed champion.

Andreas said, "I'm absolutely gutted. There's no two ways about it. All along I thought we had to drive for third and I was actually being pretty careful as it would have been terrible to crash out or burn out the car. I could have given a lot more gas and of course I regret not going flat out all the way. Second place would have made me champion. I think quite a few people outside our team knew all along that we had miscalculated and we feel a little foolish that nobody mentioned it, but of course it's nobody's job but ours to know the rules and do the sums correctly. It's been an amazingly close fight all season and the way it ended has been the worst disappointment."

"Anyway there is no point dwelling on what could or should have happened. I'm on my way to Spain for Rally Catalunya and I will put all my energy and focus into the remaining WRC rounds of 2008."

It`s very interesting to note that PG was extremely happy with the Skoda during Romjulsrally (which he won, btw, after Henning had to withdraw after SS4). When asked to compare his Suzuki from 2008 and the 2005 Skoda he said: "Engine wise, I don`t know, but the Skoda definitely has a better chassis". He also said that with a little more testing, the Skoda could be a big surprise in Rally Norway. Now PG will be challenging Mads Østberg in the Norwegian Championship. But that doesn`t neccessarily mean that Bieltvedt will beat Mikkelsen. It`s actually a good bet that Mikkelsen can win the N4 class overall - in his Cup car. Engine-wise the Cup car isn`t lacking a lot, but they are restricted to running standard gearbox and diffs. 19 cars starting the new Subaru Rally cup btw, a fantastic figure for a new one-make class (with quite expensive machinery) in Norwegian rallying.

Numedals Rally this week-end ;)

http://www.numedalsrally.no/

A new interesting duel between Mads Østberg Subaru Impreza WRC S14 and PG Andersson, Skoda Fabia WRC. PG won the first round of the championship, Sigdalsrally, when Østberg stopped on SS3. But because he is swedish, PG won`t score points in the championship. This time Østberg will have to show something better than in the previous rallies (incl. Rally Norway), but PG is of course full of confidence after his two stage wins in RN.

Interesting start also by Valter Jensen, European Historic Rally Champion 2008, who has brushed the dust off his Ford Focus WRC and does a little comeback. Valter won the first Numedalsrally in 1989, and drives this years event with starting number 60. This relates to the fact that he will celebrate his 60th birthday a little later this year!

Valters Focus hasn`t been in action for something like five years now, and he has had to invest in new safetycell fuel tank, new seats and belts among other things, as these items were outdated. Just to update the car safetywise will cost him appr. 10 000 Euros! Then on the other hand, he can afford it...

Rally Sørland is located as far south you are able to come in Norway, in Mandal. It will start today, its a two day event.

The favourite is Østberg in front of Grøndal. Østberg will just do this event for a test before Rally Italy(Sardegna). In N4 Stenshorne will have his debut with Evo10 in this event. He will fight against Brynildsen, Bieltvedt and Kollevold. Mikkelsen will also be in this fight but he has a downgraded N14 because he drives in the Subaru-Cup.

8Nygård, Impreza N14 +1.27.4
9Frustøl, Focus WRC +1.35.3
10Bakken, Evo9 +1.41.3

Østberg has won all four stages today but got 5min penalty because too early in to ss2. Grøndal had mechanical problems on ss4 and lost some time.

Mikkelsen are driving extremely fast! His Subaru-Cup car which is not an optimal N4-car is flying. The car has 260hp, compared to optimal N4-cars like Brynildsen and Stenshorne they have 300hk. There are also lots of other things which is downgraded on the Cup-cars. Really impressing driving of the young Mikkelsen

Andreas Mikkelsen stayed in front to the finish, despite losing power steering on the last stage. He won in his Subaru Impreza N14 23,3 seconds ahead of Martin Stenshorne in the new Mitsu Evo X. A truly great drive from Andreas, and now he is still hoping for a Skoda Fabia WRC drive in Sardinia.
Mads Østberg (Subaru Impreza WRC S14) started the saturday in 30th position, but advanced through the day winning all five stages. On the last stage Anders Grøndal (Impreza WRC S10) retired, while Christian Selmer (Focus WRC 05) hit a concrete bridge and crawled to the finish with damaged rear suspension losing more than one minute. Thus Mads Østberg could secure the 3rd overall position and full Norwegian Championship points in the WRC/Group A class.

Eyvind spun on dry asphalt 360 x2. Last bit of SS2. Many others have problems there.

I must say Mikkelsen is very impressive! And PG with the 32mm restrictor is satisfied as well.
With the 33 mm he think the IX is good enough.

Someone just texted me to say that they heard Grondal had to stop to remove snow from his engine. Completely unconfirmed though!

Says here http://www.rallynm.no/ that he had turbo challenges on 6. It is minus 30, and that might have something to do with it.

Just heard on the radio now that the turbo is fixed on the last service before SS7 & 8, and that he will safe it into victory.

This site and http://www.norsk-rally.com will be updated with pics and film during the evening and tomorrow, for those interested.

The engine became too cold and went into "save" mode. Not sure if Rene George (GTA) pulled the plug, or what happened in the end. Will report when the news is published in Norwegian.
