3-5 January is the IQ Janner Rallye counting for austria and tsjech rally championship! Only N4 cars (or less) are allowed. According to rallye-magazin the stages are covered with snow.

Timetable can be found here: http://www.iq-jaennerrallye.at/Zeitplan.62.0.html
Entrylist can be found here: http://www.iq-jaennerrallye.at/Nennliste.66.0.html

I count 4 S2000 and very strong other N4's like Stohl, Pech, ...

I hope we will be able to follow this round on Freecater Rally channel (http://www.freecaster.tv/rally).

According to rallye-magazin, there will be live onboard footage in the service parc, very nice! :D

HaCo: There are cars without valid homologation as well at start but they start 5 minutes behind the latest new one. First of them is rally legend Stig Blomquist with gr.A Lancer Evo III.

According to the drivers there is little snow coverage on stages but a lot of ice and almost no snowbanks.

I would name also Jani Paasonen or Raimund Baumschlager who are very strong on snow, HaCo ;)

Stohl will not start because he is in negotiation with a sponsor and that could not do good to the deal!?!
Also, he would have started with an gas mitsu, so not a real N4.

No problem, it was just a shakedown. We'll see tomorrow morning how they can do on real stages. Moreover because many drivers didn't do shakedown.

Frankly I don't expect too much from Tarabus (first rally with 4WD) or Waldherr. But maybe Rossenberger could do pretty well with Polo. That's about S2000. My favourite is still Baumschlager if the stages will be still under ice or snow cover.

Mirek
4th January 2008, 11:16
In first stage Rossenberger's engine stopped in a hairpin and it took 30 seconds to start it again. Waldherr damaged exhaust on stage 2 and the car lost power. Paasonen was going on wide tyres! It was bad for stage 1 but good for stage 2. Valoušek slightly damaged right front from snow barier. Orsak didn't managed to brake into one crossroads and Trojan had some dumper problems.

That's info from Pluto from the place ;)

HaCo

On snow and ice it is just about drivers, their skills and experience. Car is minor thing. You can see it on cars from the non-FIA allowed group. For example Kristof Klaussner with old Audi Quattro who is currently 14th overal after stage 4!

Waldherr had wrong tyre choice. Paasonen now on the same tyres as the rest of the top. Tahko's lost was caused by weared tyres. Arazim made a spin. Everyone says that it is very slippery and many of drivers are careful because they are not used of driving on spikes...

Some other news. Hungarian László Kiss (gr. N Swift) crashed into finish photocell of stage 6 and was moved to the hospital. He is said to be ok. Stage was cancelled for the rest of the field. Car number 00 also crashed :D

Valousek had weared tyres from the end of stage seven to nine. Gassner had a puncture and lost 4 minutes.

Mirek
4th January 2008, 21:16
So, first leg is over for the most of the crew.

1. Valousek
2. Pech + 6,3
3. Haneder + 34,4
4. Baumschlager +1:23

Baumschalger is ill (flu). Valousek made two spins in the last stages. Tahko rolled over (continues) and Trojan was out and damaged intercooler.

Problem for Tarabus on SS13 this morning it seems, and it seems Waldherr didn't take part to the leg... :(

Wim_Impreza
5th January 2008, 10:14
Tom, Tarabus crashed out the rally and Waldherr had mechanical problems before SS13, so he retired too.

Nice fight for the lead between Pavel Valoušek and Václav Pech. It's a pity that Gaßner had a puncture, otherwise he could fight for a podium place.

GTA
5th January 2008, 10:23
Waldherr ( Polo S 2000 ) stopped before stage 13 due to severe Brake problems and did not want to take the risk to crash the car.... ( and do not forget that Neither Waldherr or Rosenberger drove the VW Polo on Snow before ! maybe 10 km before the start ).

[Madeira-Rally]
5th January 2008, 10:51
It's difficult to say who will win the rally... but...

Mirek

Valousek has not enough snow tyres. Today he must use weared ones. Pech has new ones for every section.

Also Paasonen has the same problem plus problems with car. He has his own car which is far from top and he doesn't have even a dog-box...

Haneder was in a snowbank. Volf joined Baumschlager in illness.

Today, there is more snow on stages.

Mirek
5th January 2008, 14:51
I don't know which car he drove in Prague. In fact he is very rare to watch in rally, he mostly do rallycross.

Last stage is partly without snow. I don't know who used which tyres (but most of the crews use tyres with spikes - better which had spikes before because the rally is long and many crews don't have money for changing new tyres for every section). Odlozilik said his central differential settings is wrong and he has too much torque on rear wheels. Baumschlager and Volf still ill.

Yes, Klaussner is crazy, but he got 4 minutes penalty yesterday for beeing to soon in time check :(

Welcome to the forum urabus-denoS2000! I hope you will stay with us for a long time.
To be honest, I don't think that it is so difficult to drive a S2000 car on snow. If you have the skills, you can even win a winter rally with such car. Last year Tomasz Czopik, in his first rally with Polo S2000, was driving in a second position for the most part of the Magurski Rally. He went in the ditch on the second day, but if he hadn't made the mistake, he would have finished second, in front of many experienced drivers, like Kuzaj, Solowow, Frycz...

Jarek Z: Tarabus drove FWD cars all his life. His way up is maybe too sharp since he made a progress from N2 Honda into S2000 in just one year! Last year on Janner rally he made his first rally in S1600, this year in S2000. He is very fast (and with Honda he was incredibly reliable as well, no crash in maybe more than 5 years) and I'm sure he would be interesting to watch in the rest of the season. I think that he just have FWD habbits and must continue learning to drive 4WD ;)
