View Full Version : Forum Fantasy Motorcycling League 2008 - final standings posted

Well, it seems things are getting earlier and earlier - only a couple of weeks ago I was unsticking the 2007 League thread and it's still on the first page of the forum as I write.

Anyway, I'm getting the League ready for 2008.

Format is the same as the previous two years:

MotoGP, 250cc, 125cc, World Superbikes, World Supersport[/*:m:hmh1tofh]
Budget of $10M, riders have fixed prices and scores points as in real life[/*:m:hmh1tofh]
Pick seven riders, with at least one from each of the five classes[/*:m:hmh1tofh]
Two transfer periods during the season to change your riders[/*:m:hmh1tofh]
Think up a suitably amusing team name[/*:m:hmh1tofh]The season starts on Feb 23rd with World Superbikes & Supersport at Losail and your full teams (inc MotoGP, 250cc, 125cc) need to be posted here by Feb 20th.

As soon as something official comes from FGSport about entry lists for WSB and particularly WSS, I'll stick the prices up so you can get going. The prices for the GP classes are done (provisional entry lists on Motogp.com), and I've done a provisional list for WSB from what we know, but obviously you need the WSS ones too before you can pick a team.

-----------------

Full rules and prices to follow as soon as possible. :)

That's cool Pat. I'll let you have the next couple of days off before I expect to see some progress. Perhaps you'll have to lobby FGSport and put some heat on them to get some lists out pronto!
Also, are you open to suggestions on additions or alterations to the league, so long as they are fairly simple? I just thought that maybe something like extra points for pole positions or most laps led might be an option.
Cheers.

It's staying as it is, basically because doing stuff like points for most laps led would need me to dig into some depth with the results and I'm aiming to keep it as simple for me to input - and for you guys to follow - as possible. As it is, after each weekend (transfer time takes longer) I only need ten minutes sat in front of the computer to get everything up to date.

Yeah, FGSport need to crack on with the WSS entry list :p - we know most of the WSB ones so I've done provisional prices for them already as well as the GPs from the Dorna lists. Last year's WSB/WSS lists came out on Jan 19th. This year I'm going on holiday skiing for a week on Jan 19th, so am really hoping they're out before then!

The GP prices are ready, but as mentioned above the WSB and particularly WSS lists aren't out yet.

Do people want to look at the GP prices now, even though you can't pick your team just yet?

Nice one looking for to this. Must do better this time.

Can I make a suggestion?
Perhaps limit the number of rider changes to 2 in the transfer window but have 2 transfer windows. The problem with everyone being able to change their whole line up is that many teams end up almost the same for the 2nd half of the year.

Thats a very good idea. I second this suggestion.

We actually already have two transfer windows - but hardly anyone seems to change in the second one.

I'm giving the 'max number of transfers' thing some thought, might limit it to three rather than two (cos if you change one person and you're limited to two, you have to directly alter another in proportion, meaning there's less scope for variation if you see what I mean).

I'll decide soon!

And, I hope FGSport get on with it with these Superbike lists - I'm on hol between Jan 19-26 (skiing in France) so really want them to be out before I go away...

Hi all,

As I've posted in the 'Hello...' thread, I'm off on holiday on Saturday - skiing for a week in France. Will be back on the 27th but won't be looking on here or posting until then.

I was hoping for the WSB/WSS lists to have appeared by now from FGSport so I could do the prices, but nothing's out yet. So unfortunately we can't get things up and running which is annoying as the season starts on Feb 20th.

I'll post the MotoGP, 250, 125 prices tomorrow night so you can be having a look at them while I'm away - even though you obviously can't pick your team yet cos of the WSB/WSS ones not being here yet.

Despite the delay, I hope as many of you as possible are still interested in playing and making the League as good as it's been the first two years!

Have a great time Pat
Team Ausino is still setting up our new Headquarters and we are progressing well.
Our Mechanical division now has an improved inventory of tools and parts, including, 2 bent screwdrivers, a slightly rusted adjustable wrench, a small tin of assorted odd nuts and bolts, a large bag of cable ties, 2 rolls of duct tape and a can of WD40.
Our hospitality unit is well stocked up as well and now consists of, 8 family tins of Heinz Baked Beans (we wanted the best), a 5 kilo bag of potatoes, 2 bags of frozen peas, a 6 pack of meat pies, a small bag of curry powder, 2 woks, and a small butane gas cooker. All this will be housed in our $19:95 two man hospitality tent (bought it at A Best dept store).
So, things are looking up for Team Ausino in 2008.

Things are prepared on the MotoGP side - preliminary spreadsheet is up at:

WSB/WSS to follow - although the majority of the WSB field is listed in other threads (WSS remains mostly a mystery).

Team AFGS Jackal Corse Announce 2008 Lineup.

"Today marked the unveiling of the rider line-up that Team AFGS Jackal Corse has employed for the 2008 WSBK and MotoGP seasons.

Competing in the pinacle of world motorcylce racing, MotoGP, will be the Aussie/American combo of Anthony West and John Hopkins. Both are relatively young yet vastly experienced and they will provide a solid base for the team to build a large points haul with over the 08 season.

Supporting West and Hopkins in the GP paddock, but racing on lower cylinder machinery, will be Finnish rider Mika Kallio, aboard a 250cc machine and young German Sandro Cortese, aboard 125cc machinery. Both young and eager to improve on their 2007 seasons; Kallio and Cortese should be title threats in 2008 and will be eager to make use of improved machinery.

In the WSBK field, AFGS Jackal Corse will rely on the vastly experienced Carlos Checa to spearhead their 1000cc effort. Checa has made the move from MotoGP and will be eager to add a WSBK title to his long list of motorcycle racing credentials.

Supporting the Spaniard, but competing in the 600cc WSS class will be the dynamic Aussie duo of Broc Parkes and Josh Brookes. Both have undoubted quality and talent aboard a motorcycle, but will hope to improve on their dissapointing 2007 seasons with strong years in 2008. Both have the equipment and talent to add a strong haul of points to the team's kitty throughout the season.

All in all, the team are motivated and excited about the year ahead and hope to make it to the top of the world standings come the seasons end."

Jake, you really oughta get a job in PR because that is brilliant. Especially the spin job on Carlos Checa. Though, I guess if you had actually listed Checa's credentials as most crashes by a gp rider ever (unconfirmed) and rider with the most wasted factory gp rides in history (confirmed) then he may not sound like such an exciting acquisition! :D Said that, your team looks strong so all the best to you (though I hope I win  ).

I do enjoy my writing! :D

However, Checa is a former GP race winner and a Suzuka 8 Hour victor too!

So thats a pretty impressive start to a list of credentials that may include biggest under-achiever and highest crash rate, but we don't include those two, do we? ;)

I told her that this does not roll off the tongue so well. I suggested that she call it Angelfox Racing. It only occured to me after your post, that Angelfox is a maker of some of the finest motorcycle leathers in the world. Oh well, it's a great name for a team none the less.

Team Hurricane Press Release.
Team Hurricane launched it's 2008 race program in front of a packed media gallery today at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Team Hurricane announced returning Spaniards Dani Pedrosa, Joan Olive and Fonsi Nieto would be joined by Swiss Thomas Luthi, Czech Lukas Pesek, Italian Andrea Dovizioso and Australian Joshua Brookes. Team Hurricane also announced a new partnership with Dapprima Racing to oversee the bike preparation in an effort to improve on last season's disappointments headed by electronics guru Michael Hunt who was sadly absent from the team launch.

Team Hurricane media relations officer Nicola McLean apologized for Mr Hunt's absence stating "the last time I saw Mike Hunt was on Tuesday and while I know you'd all like to see Mike Hunt now, it's sadly not possible. You will find however that during the season Mike Hunt will be very accessible to the large media contingent and any time any of you wish to see Mike Hunt please come and see me in the Team Hurricane garage."

Team Hurricane will continue it's preperations at approved Dorna and FGSport tests throughout the winter break in preperations for round 1 of the World Superbike/Supersport championship in Qatar on February 23rd and MotoGP round 1 also at Qatar on March 9.

Mike Hunt is really busy these days  Hope Mike doesn't get too wet, or too excited over the rainy season. Hope the media give Mike a thorough debriefing and pump Mike for answers. I think Mike will take some stick in the next few weeks, and hope that Mike will cum through with flying colours ;)

I gotta say, I'm loving the variety in the teams this year. Makes things far more interesting and hopefully the racing is as diverse so we don't end up with everyone making alterations that make the teams all similar. Good work guys.

Yeah, I'm liking the variation too!

I have four teams to post shortly - mine, my mum's (genuinely, it's rather like the Fiat Yamaha garage in our house with a wall down the middle), plus a couple from some (ahem) special guests whose agent has declined to reveal their real names!

Two days to go for anyone still not involved - as long as they're posted here before the Superbikes roll of out the Losail pits for first practice on Thursday your team'll be in for Round 1.

Team NoBlouse expects the new line-up to be even stronger than the original, and wishes Luthi the very best of luck in his future endeavours.

Mr Blofart's accountant is arranging additional teams for Mr Blofart's family, using every possible combination of prices that fit within the rules, and these teams will be announced by midnight UTC 20-Feb. Mr Blofart expects a successful title defence for 2008, and perhaps a scoop of all of the minor placings as well ;)

Before I forget - a bit of an advanced apology and warning that the scores won't be up immediately after the event.

Because as well as it being Round 1 of WSB/WSS, it's also Round 1 of a karting championship I'm doing this year on Sunday. (results/report/pics to follow!)

So I'll be at the opposite end of the country to my spreadsheet, and indeed won't see the races until late Monday UK time (i.e Tuesday morning Aussie time) and so the points won't be up until after that.

I know I had a bit of network trouble last year which played havoc with the scores for a while, but I won't be forgetting about you! :)

My start is good too from where I stand - one of my riders is yet to get to grips with his new bike, as is his team - but he is a proven talent and the team certainly has the runs on the board when it comes to developing a brand new bike into a championship winner - it's only a matter of time.

Two of my selections were 'heart over head' and I'm sure they'll reward me with some valiant efforts during the year.

For my money, with the form we've seen from WSB/WSS and the potential of the GP selections, the teams to beat are Team Hurricane and Team Heinekin, with Blurnsballers a certain threat. I expect to fight for a top three position - although I'm certainly not ruling out a successful defence of my rookie 2007 title :)

Press Release - PN Corse

The team had a difficult weekend in Valencia, again following its early season form of strong pace but tendency to crash before the chequered flag. The team are absolutely gutted after a series of DNFs have left the squad languishing in 15th in the standings when they could easily be near the front.

Lead rider Nori Haga continued to struggle in qualifying and fell early in race one, despite a promising start leaving the team scratching their heads and PN Corse's manager drafting a regrettable sacking letter ready to issue. 'Second' rider Max Neukirchner took pole and led the entire race before becoming an unfortunate victim of Carlos Checa's error and to make matters worse, wound up with a broken collarbine. The team are distraught and hope he can be fit soon, although the 30+ points he was set to score will be sorely missed.

Young British Supersport star Graeme Gowland had another strong but unlucky ride, crashing from sixth place mid-way through. Again, a bunch of points were lost. David Checa put in two reasonable rides but gained just a single point all weekend in a tough field. Nori Haga finished the day with a morale-boosting win which may retain his place in PN Corse, but once again the possibility of much more was lost as the unlucky Neukirchner sat out race two.

Yep, he was in British Eurosport's studio.

Afraid it's not brilliant news - his recovery isn't going as well as expected and he may need another operation to lengthen the pin that's in his leg. The plan is apparently to be ready to return for the German round in June. I read that somewhere yesterday but now can't find the link.

So, unfortunately the few of you with him will probs be subbing him out before he's even appeared. Such a shame after he'd finally made the change from Yamaha in BSB to the world stage which could get him noticed when he's fit.

Press Release - PN Corse, Monza WSB 2008

Best-Ever day for PN Corse as riders score perfect double 1-2

PN Corse scorched back into contention in the league standings after riders Nori Haga and Max Neukirchner stormed to a double 1-2 in two breathtaking races at Monza.

The weekend began badly with third WSB pilot David Checa missing through injury, and Supersport riders Graeme Gowland crashed on the first lap of his race, but Haga and Neukirchner were on tremendous form to deliver the result that has been promised all season. Neukirchner took an overdue first career WSB win in race one, which left team members celebrating in the street outside and Haga followed a close second to open the days events. Haga then just edged a truly epic race two ahead of the German star and Ryuichi Kiyonari, whose team manager was also in attendance. The race was characterised by quite a lot of enthusiastic shouting at TV screens from the two rival managers, with only a temporary loss of dignity :)

The Ninja Stars Racing Team have had a particularly topsy-turvy start to season 2008 with a number of wins contrasting with multiple DNF's. However, the team is upbeat that Monza SBK will prove a turning point for the season with the teams strongest showing for the year seeing them leap to 5th in the championship standings.
Noriyuki Haga proved once again that he has the speed to be a championship contender, only for the first time this year he was able to capitalise on that speed by finishing both races with a 2nd and a 1st. More positivity came from the supersport race with rider Broc Parkes riding to a stirring 3rd place carrying significant injuries. Sadly Garry McCoy and Ivan Clementi didn't fare so well but have plenty of time to bounce back at the next round.

Guys, after this weekend (Le Mans) it's transfer time. You have until practice starts at the next event in two weeks time to submit new teams on here.

Change for this year - you can only change THREE of your riders at each transfer point (there's a second transfer period later in the year). So four of them must stay the same, and of course your team must still be within budget.

Ninja Stars Racing Team - First Sector Report Card.

The Ninja Stars Racing Team have endured an unusual start to the season with many delirious highs accompanied by the depths of too many lows. John Hopkins just can't take a trick so far this year. After riding with injury early in the year, he has come to hit some form but that hasn't translated into the results we'd hoped for due to circumstances outside his control. Hiroshi Aoyama has been pleasantly consistent and we're expecting even stronger results ahead. Sergio Gadea has shown he has the speed to be at the pointy end but the smarts haven't been there often enough and he has disappointed so far.
Nori Haga is much like Sergio in his performance so far this year but his recent form has been strong so Nori and the team are confident that his bad luck is now behind him. Broc Parkes has had a solid start to the season overcoming some nasty injuries lately to keep him in championship contention. Both Garry McCoy and Ivan Clementi have shown some impressive speed but both have been plagued by bad luck.
Rider Grades:
John Hopkins - C+
Hiroshi Aoyama - B+
Sergio Gadea - D+
Noriyuki Haga - B
Broc Parkes - B+
Garry McCoy - C
Ivan Clementi - C+

Ninja Stars Racing Team would like to thank riders, Gadea, Clementi and McCoy, for their efforts but unfortunately their grades just aren't up to scratch and they are to be dropped from the team.
Their replacement riders are Yuki Takahashi, Nico Terol and Joan Lascorz. This gives Ninja Stars Racing the following rider lineup:

John Hopkins - $1mil
Hiroshi Aoyama - $1.5mil
Yuki Takahashi - $1mil
Nico Terol - $600,000
Noriyuki Haga - $3.5mil
Broc Parkes - $1.5mil
Joan Lascorz - $750,000
Total Salary - $9.85mil.

The Ninja Stars Racing Team are now confident that the first third of the season has laid a solid platform to work from for the remainder of the year and that the new additions are just what we need to see a surge forward in the championship standings.

NoBlouse Racing announces its "Close the stable door after the horse(s) has bolted" team revision.

Out - Sofuoglu (maybe next year Kenan), McCoy (maybe next year Triumph) and Corsi (actually you were doing ok, but our chief toecutter was on a roll).

In - Neukirchner (Schnell! Schnell!), Lascorz (Privateer with pedigree) and Di Meglio (Frenchman riding for Finnish team on an Italian bike which is another Italian bike...)

We would also like to take a moment to express our confidence in our continuing riders, who are doing a sterling job under often trying conditions. Especially Mr Holland, who deserves a far better bike than our budget will currently allow - a year of learning the tracks will do wonders for his 2009 performance should he remain a viable WSB candidate.

Team Hurricane is clearly very happy with it's performance in the opening rounds of the 2008 racing season however it is not going to rest on it's past performances. Looking to increase it's lead in the points standings sees us having to say a sad farewell to Lukas Pesek who is still learning the ropes in the 250cc class. Taking his place on the team is 125cc front-runner Nico Terol. We wish Lukas well for the remainder of the season and look forward to working with Nico.

Reynholm Industries Basement Racing Team - Sector 2

Firstly, Reynholm Industries would like to express its disappointment in how the first part of the year has turned out and the lack of performance by some of the riders. Reynholm Industries has a strong reputation of success, how else do you start with just 6 million dollars and start a company that makes 1800 billion billion dollars profit every year? The effort from some of the riders has not matched this reputation which is why they are being fired! Some of the riders are just lucky I can only trade 3 riders at the moment.

The following riders have been fired by Reynholm Industries: Kenan Sofuoglu, Tomi Koyama and James Toseland.

Reynholm Industries is proud to announce three riders joining the team who appear to have the right stuff. These are Nicolas Terol, Mike Di Meglio and Troy Bayliss. While it appears that the season has been irreversibly ruined, Reynholm Industries expects the team to lift its performances and push for a top 10 finish by season’s end.

Reynholm Industries Team Lineup:
John Hopkins 1
Andrea Dovizioso 1
Hector Barbera 1.5
Nicolas Terol 0.6
Mike Di Meglio 0.8
Troy Bayliss 3.5

A disastrous weekend for Ninja Stars racing team sees a massive drop of 7 placings from 7th to 14th in the standings. The weekend started quite solidly with a 7th place for Nico Terol followed by a handy, though disappointing 8th for Hiroshi Aoyama who missed a possible 5th with a last lap off-track excursion. It was all downhill from there. New recruit, Yuki Takahashi crashed out from a strong position. John Hopkins then also crashed out after suffering technical troubles. Finally, team captain Nori Haga, put in a brave effort riding injured by suffered a first race crash followed by a commendable 5th place. This has put an enormous dent in our championship aspirations and a near miraculous change of luck will need to occur to see a significant rise back up the standings.

The Ninja Stars Racing Team is completely disillusioned with it's sorry state of affairs after a miserable year where nearly everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Because of this, a reshuffle of the riders has been necessary and mass sackings of the staff within the organisation is imminent at seasons end. Everyone is on notice.

Yuki Takahashi - $1

neninja wins the title with one round still to go :) Congratulations!

e340t can't catch due to them both having Carlos Checa. And I'm in third - even if Checa and Venemann didn't score for neninja and my riders (Troy C, Max N and Jonathan Rea) took the maximum available points I'd still fall short.

So Neninja is this year's League champion.

Can't wait for next year when I'll hopefully have a change of luck and a more consistent year.
Congrats to Neninja on winning the thing (can we claim it for Kawasaki? :D ) and well down to everyone else who played, especially to those who made me look better by finishing below me.

This isn't good achievement for my team, despite of any effort taken to promote team to the better position, some riders' performance were promising at the start but cannot stand the rhythm anytime longer and being overwhelmed with injury.
Hoping this result can motivate and encourage people, especially those are finishing above me to keep taking part in the game,

Fonsi didn't do too badly considering he didn't make any transfers, he was in the midfield mix throughout.

Joan suffered *suffered* somewhat from Tommy Hill missing the entire season, Luca Morelli (part season) not scoring a point then being sacked, Kenan having a very difficult season (he was originally priced at - ahem - $2.5m) and Pere Tutusaus also being sacked. Joan was virtually carrying his own team! (I think in the end he did a little worse than our other star entrant Angel Rodriguez, who picked himself and was then sacked in 2006).

I'd definitely like to see a few stars in next year too!

I haven't actually seen Fonsi for a while but I emailed him his final results and the link to your database and he said that he'll have to improve next year. Joan's team as you mentioned had injury problems all year, thankfully that didn't include Joan himself. Rodri said that he'll have a go next season too so hopefully that'll be three 'stars' next year. :)

I'm glad Fonsi has a positive attitude about the League next year. Is he sorted on a Superbike somewhere, do you know?

Slightly O/T - any news on Rodri's plans for next year yet? From what I'd seen of the CEV results he was winning everything and also had some good one-offs in World Supersport - any chance of him going up to World Supersport full-time? (Yamaha Spain had a dismal time this year, they could do with him or could his CEV team move up?)
