I've spent the last few months tinkering with a few different ideas. The Winston system didn't reward winning enough, the Chase had to ride the short bus, so I've worked out one that I think would make a lot of people happy. I've tried writing my own point systems before, but I think this is my best work yet.

1. 200
2. 173
3. 162
4. 154
5. 146
6. 138
7. 130
8. 122
9. 118
10. 114
11. 110
12. 106
13. 102
14. 98
15. 94
16. 90
17. 86
18. 82
19. 78
20. 74
21. 70
22. 67
23. 64
24. 61
25. 58
26. 55
27. 52
28. 49
29. 46
30. 43
31. 40
32. 39
33. 38
34. 37
35. 36
36. 35
37. 34
38. 33
39. 32
40. 31
41. 30
42. 29
43. 28

Bonus points:
+2 for running the fastest single lap of the race.
+3 for leading any lap OTHER than the last.
+5 for leading the most laps.

And no chase.

Thoughts?

TV ratings are down by almost one fourth. What exactly is your definition of broken?

Great, but very incomplete.

Now, go and take your propoesed points schedule and apply it to the 2006 and 2007 actual results, race by race, and report back how it would:

1) affect the actual "Chase" results,

2) how it would bhave been diffenet from the "classic" points schedule.

Would there have been a different champion ???

That would take a very long time. Plus, no one tracks who ran the fastest lap during the race so I wouldn't know who to give those two points to.

It aint broke but there are major problem with the way the chase works and waters down the compertion for the last 10 races. The chase has alienated alot of fans so what is needed is a points system that will award the winner of races alot more than the old system so we get a more accurate picture (from the points) of who should be the champion. Its what fans want, its what NASCAR needs to do or next year and the year after that the stands and tv ratings will empty more.
