there's a thread on codies web site spilling the beans about the next gen TRD. It won't have BTCC, DTM, or V8s.
it will still have real world series, and real world circuits... but will include much more of a Need for Speed feel with street racing, drifting, etc added to the traditional racing on traditional circuits.
Codemasters does still hold the license for DTM & V8, and they aren't ruling out doing a game to utilize those licenses.
The new game will be for PC, XBox 360, and PS3 and will be out mid next year.

Codemasters have just lost themselves a customer in me and it's helped me decide that I'm not buying an Xbox 360 or a PS3.

Race Driver / V8 Supercars Split
“Let’s burn some dust here. Eat! My! Rubber!”
by: Chris Stead 30/11/2007
Boy have we found out some interesting information this morning. Until now the V8 Supercars and Race Driver games have been exactly the same, simply renamed in Australia to leverage support from local Motorsport enthusiasts. But things have changed. A press release issued this morning by local Codemasters distributor Atari confirmed that the famed developer will be releasing two separate games in calendar year 08, one for Race Driver, and one for V8 Supercars.
Until today, the next game in the Race Driver series – going by the working title of Race Driver One – was expected to be released in Australia as V8 Supercars. Now we know that the game will be released in Australia, and worldwide, under the name Race Driver: GRID – utilising Codemaster’s new next-generation naming technology as seen in Colin McRae: DiRT… because lower case is for tossers. This should hit consumers in mid-2008 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, followed by an as yet unnamed V8 Supercars game that we guess would appear in late 2008 or early 2009.
We love the previous V8 Supercars games, which, powered by Codemaster’s genius genre know-how, produced not only amazing variety, but a storming online mode and great graphics with sensational damage modelling. Just the thought of bringing the series to next-gen using Colin McRae: DiRT’s brilliant Neon Engine is enough to make us shift gears in our pants. But this announcement has us a little bit scared.
On face value, it looks like they are taking the V8 Supercars experience and splitting it into two games. Race Driver: GRID will feature Northern Hemisphere racing in the US, Europe and Japan, leaving the follow-up V8 Supercars to presumably focus on just the famous Aussie championship. Given that we have become accustomed over the three previous games to getting the worldwide racing experience in one package, a move like this could really backfire in Codemaster’s face.
It would be like splitting FIFA into two games, one with the rest of the world, and one just for the A-League! And then probably putting the other leagues up as DLC.
But we’ll admit we’re being a bit alarmist and super bitchy – after all, it’s our passion for the series which has got as strutting about the office like offended peacocks right now. Perhaps the pay off could be worth it. The previous games did include the V8 Supercars amongst their many championships, but not the series in its entirety. If the standalone game included every track from the actual championship, all the licensed cars, drivers supplying dialogue and a much more focused experience, maybe it would be worth it.
There is also another, much more awesome, possibility.
Race Driver: GRID could be a completely new Codemaster’s experience, leaving the upcoming V8 Supercars to retain its position as the premier global race game. Today’s press release for GRID spoke of ‘new, classic, circuit and drift’ cars, as well as “challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races.” It also talked of racing in “prestige Marques including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani” and exploring “Japanese racing culture where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads.” And just look at those screenshots!"

LeMans?
I was thinking that when I said sportscars, but perhaps the ACO Le Mans license is available.
The FIA GT already has an agreement with SimBin (damn fine game, too!).
I'll keep my fingers crossed...
Codies seems to have a reluctance to pursue licenses to show case 'real' cars in their games, i.e. Ferrari Porsche, Aston-Martin, etc
Not certain if they would do a Le Mans game because of that reason, but I'll be hopeful.

Seems that way...perhaps Codies thinks that will sell. Oh well, no more Race Driver for me.

but that game is called for race driver: grid and yeah Im not going to buy that neither. I have already faced too many street racing games and more is coming all the time.
I think this is just the mid project and them try out something new and Race Driver: One is still there and will come up later on. Im quite sure that them aint going to drop them racing game.
