I will be starting a WTCC championship using Simbins RACE: The WTCC Game.

Here are the proposed dates of the events. It will run in the Summer of 2007, to avoid clashes with current series and to give people a chance to purchase and practice on the game before the start of the series.

30-7 July Monza
8-14 July Magny Cours
15-21 July Brands Hatch
22-28 July Oschersleben
29-3 August Curitiba
4-10 August Puebla
11-17 August Brno
18-24 August Istanbul
25-31 August Valencia
1-7 September Macau

Here is a list of the drives available in the championship.

A few questions AF in no particular order of importance:

1. How will you contact us all?

2. Is it best to be on broadband?

3. Will it just be the qualifications and of course the race and no practice sessions?

4. How many laps will there be?

5. How good is everyone? Because I think I am just starting to get somewhere with regard to the racing line.

I would love to enter. And looking at the dates I have not got anything planned then.

Of course a SEATSport. I was thinking #10 (Peter Terting) but I am not cerertain.

Hi, have a look at some of the TRD3 competitions to see how it is run. Although I would love to do an online competition with everyone, all actually racing each other, due to not everyone having a fast enough connection, and the fact that theres massive time zone differences between people racing, its easier to do it offline.

The way it works is a race distance and venue is set by the organiser of the championship, in the case of that one, it would be me. Then everyone whose entered runs it in the following week (usually) upto the deadline, at which I post the result. (Everyone PMs me the times they set).

I tend to prefer fairly short races, but I am tempted to run them to full WTCC length, which would mean each round would take approximately 45 minutes to complete (2 races at just over 20 minutes each).

With regards to how good everyone is, there will be some of us which are very good (the likes of Jon Brown and Peter Vuko only to mention a few) and some of us which are a bit slower (like me).

Try testing out Monza, I can do it in the BMW 320is E90 in about 2 minutes

Just done a test at Monza in my Alfa. Quickest lap of 2:06.225, but I know there's lots of (maybe upto 8 seconds) worth of time to find.

I wish I had this game. What's the minumum PC technical spec?

Alfa Fan
7th January 2007, 19:36
High.

Minimum

1.7GHz
512MB RAM
2.5GB Disk Space
DirectX9 Graphics Card 128MB

Recommended

3.0GHz
1GB RAM
2.5GB Disk Space
DirectX9 Graphics Card 256MB

I'm running it with 512MB RAM at the moment, and its not smooth enough to run full grid of cars. I'm currently looking to upgrade.

SEATFreak
8th January 2007, 08:47
It looks like I have to also (upgrade). I can do the quick race (2 laps) but when I try to do the full race weekend the running is very very stop/start. I fear it may have to be the processor.

Is there anyway I can check the processor speed on my PC?

Alfa Fan
8th January 2007, 13:52
I have the same problem. 6 cars is OK, 10 is about managable, but any more causes problems.

To find out the processor your computer has, click Start - Control Panel - System - General

Should tell you the speed of your processor and the amount of RAM you have. In my case 2.2GHz (64 bit - so equivalent of 3.4GHz) and 512MB of RAM, which isn't really enough.

BM

In my case 2.2GHz (64 bit - so equivalent of 3.4GHz)

I don't think thats correct - the 2.2GHz is simply the clock speed and the 64-bit doesn't affect that - in fact, without a 64-bit OS and software that can take advantage of 64-bit computing then it's actually a bit useless at the moment.

AF, one other Q: How about organising a TRD3 or another online championship? I'm sure if we discussed it and gave everyone plenty of notice then we'd be able to get a game on the go.

Mine is an AMD Sempron Processor 2600+ and is 1.60ghz and 512MB of RAM. Don't know if that means anything to you guys but like you Alfa Fan if I set the number of competing cars to just under 10 I can manage. I have just raced for a bit of First Practice as Yvan Muller at Oschersleben. Do you think if we managed on that we could be OK?

BM
8th January 2007, 22:04
SF, I have tried the demo on my laptop - 1.73GHz Centrino, 1GB RAM, 128MB Integrated Graphics, and it works with only my car, but not very well. I think what you need to do is upgrade processor, ram and graphics card to the recommended specs, but don't get a dual core processor - these are good for everything BUT gaming so get an 3GHz Pentium 4 or the equiv. AMD.

Considering it is time that is important, not really racing the other cars, yeah that should be fine. :)

Absolute rubbish! Dual core processors are fine for gaming. Should hopefully be building a new PC myself soonish. Will have a dual core processor in it for sure. Intel are close to stopping their single core production as are AMD so dual core will soon be the only way. At least what you said about 64 bit was correct. I think Alfa Fan was confused. An AMD 64 3200+ or 3500+ is about equivalent to a 3Ghz Pentium 4.

I have this game but it doesn't seem to run. My graphics is an old PCI and is only 64mb. Besides updating to a better card, is there any way to get around the problem without spending much money? I've been dying to play this game for about 5 or 6 weeks and its lying on my shelf and I'm raging that I can't play. If there is no solution other than to buy a new card, just say it so that I don't give myself false hope!

Daniel
29th May 2007, 13:42
You will NOT get that game to run properly with a PCI graphics card. I'm sorry Paddy but I did stress this before!

You don't need a new card, you need a new PC.

52Paddy
29th May 2007, 14:03
Oh right, I'd forgotten. Thanks Daniel. That's fair enough. :(

Daniel
29th May 2007, 14:13
I know it's not nice to hear that you need a new PC but in the long run it'll give you better results and things will run :)

52Paddy
29th May 2007, 16:15
Yeah, I also need a job though :mark:

Go on, tell me that's good in the long run too... :p :

Paddy. There's nothing better than that first paycheck and spending it on something indulgent like computer parts for yourself ;)

How many people are going to participate in this? I will run it if we can get at least 5/6 firm entries.

Daniel
29th May 2007, 18:41
Let me see how I like Race when I get my graphics card on Thursday and I may be happy to participate. As my PC is now it just won't play race smoothly!

AlexD

It's a bargain on Play.com and should run fine on my PC.
Chamiponship sounds fine. i'd drive the #31 D'aste Proteam BMW

AlexD
9th July 2007, 21:38
I'm guessing this isn't going ahead then?

Alfa Fan
9th July 2007, 22:25
It will do, if I get enough people interested. So far only 3/4 have even expressed an interest, which isn't enough really.

To run it I want at least 6 firm entries.

Please post here if you're definitely ready to enter a series starting in the next 2/3 weeks.

i never had the problem with the game but have had exactly the same with the new Race 07 demo which is quite annoying
