Yeah right but just so happens this is the SCSA forum NOT the Nascar forum, it's o/k discussing SCSA related topics posted O/T but c'mon guys twelve pages about a TV programme!

Don't read the bloody thread then...

Hmmm,

Perhaps you haven't noticed my posts in this thread.

Perhaps you haven't noticed that I started the original Joke thread many moons ago on the old forum.

I don't have a problem with O/T posts, in fact I've started many myself.

The reason I posted the comment about the streaming thread was that I didn't want post after post about the technicalities of streaming and people complaining that it was going off topic.

Yes, I am a moderator and yes I do try and keep threads roughly to their topic.

I was trying to be helpful to those people who wanted to discuss the steraming issue and prevent post after post of people omplaining about threads going off target. Which, thanks to your unnecessary post we now have.

I also put smilies in to show that it was just a gentle reminder and offering help. Of course, you chose to take my post out of context - have I actually removed the streaming posts?

Errrrrrr, no.

But you still chose to get on your high horse and bitch!

I also think you comment, apart from being well out of order (ffs indeed) is pretty unfair. I've been a moderator well over a year and have worn the moderator hat about 4 times in that period.

As to those complaining about the length of the thread, for goodness sake, don't read it if you're not interested. Duh!

The perceptive among you will have noticed I'm a bit peed off!

Dont make him angry, you wouldn't like him when he's angry :)

It's a long time to wait, so like me can I suggest we all send as much encouragement as possible to FiveUS, thanking them for showing the race this Sunday, and asking if they can show more races, even if they are time delayed.

Who got a letter today - Sentanta NASN

I got a letter today from Setanta Sports informing me about a change of Company Name / Transfer of Business.

Letter says.

Over the last three years Setanta Sports has been transforming the sports broadcasting market with the services and great content. We have experience rapid and significant growth and are now re-structuring our business to ensure that we continue to bring you the best sports programming. This change will not affect the service you receive in any way, except that future payments will be collected by Setanta Sports S.a.r.l instead of Setanta Transmissions (UK) Limited with effect from 1st March 2007.

I think they have just moved the company to Luxembourg for tax reasons. They of course started as a UK-centric and therefore UK ltd company.

This Mac computing and therefore non-TVU accessible fan is sorted. I got a VGA cable today, plugged it from the Mac into the back of the widescreen TV and it all works, so our annual Daytona 500 party goes ahead tomorrow using Nascar.com's Pitcommand and the live radio coverage. Couldn't have cancelled the party, Mrs C's spent months looking up Nascar recipe sites and is slaving over a hot stove as I write!

Good Idea. What do other people think?

I'm opening up a poll for people to vote.

As you see, I've been a numpty and added the vote to this thread, which isn't really fair as everyone on the board should get to vote. So, I will start a new vote thread.

It's rubbish - I actually got a bit of coverage, a crasg and resultant pitstops, then they go to a commerical break and it goes back to the 'coming up screen' and stays there. I've tried shutting the page and opening again and I get the same bit of film!!!

LIVE Busch Series Racing on NASCAR.COM

I'm watching it fine, right clicked the screen, selected Zoom and Full Screen, not sticky, and a great picture. Thank You NASCAR.

Great coverage, and sad I know, but actually enjoying some of the American Adverts, these NASCAR drivers do really have a cool sense of humour, unlike the robotic humourless pampered F1 drivers. Best advert so far is Earnhardt Jr giving directions around a track. Go hard left, then straight for half a mile, go heard left then straight half a mile.

Yes, I realise that, in the real world! Shame though, when you consider it, if you have live TV coverage you're going to wathc it on the TV. By streaming it all NASCAR is doing is making coverage available tot hose who can't get it live, so whichever TV company is covering said race is simply having its audience increased, which has to be good for it!

Shame people don't see it that way in the real world!

I'm sure there are people at work making sure watching NASCAR in the UK is a no-go. I will wait till midnight and watch it on Five, and hope & pray we don't have some chinless middle-class english jerk doing the commentary, and thats it Larry, Mac and Darrell.

I'm unsure now what to do with my NASN sub. I'm sure they will have Nascar on as soon as the ESPN/NASN deal is sorted. If I cancel now, then I'll have to resubscribe later, so unless the resolution of NASN's coverage is a long way off (like 3 months+) then I can't be bothered with the rigmarole.

Wasn't too bad, though you did feel that both guys didn't really have a clue what they were on about. And the old NASCAR movie to explain what NASCAR is all about was dire, seen it so many times before.

One good point though was the picture quality, which I thought was much better than it was on NASN, though I think this might be to do with the sky channel/band frequency that Five has is better than NASN's.

Was glad they kept with Larry/Mac/Darrell for commentary.
PS I too have emailed Five to say thanks.

Just finished watching the five coverage. I quite enjoyed the format they used. During the US ad breaks they either showed UK ads (not very many) or cut to the studio. The studio had a main presenter, Jonathan Green and a racing driver (name forgotten) who had raced the Daytona 24hour event. They discussed what was happening at a very basic level but I would have liked to have seen a driver with some Oval experience (in fact any driver with a bit of personality presenting). Anyone know what Vergers is upto on a Sunday evening ?

In general I found fives showing of the Daytona 500 to be a great success. I look forward to more free coverage and an end to subscribing to NASN :)

It was Johnny Mowlem.

Personally I think it killed the atmosphere/excitement of the race cutting to two fairly clueless blokes in an studio during the US ads. Suppose its a small price to pay for seeing the whole race though.

Yes Richard, I also had EPG Set on Sky+ and you would have thought Channel Five would have got EPG right at least, as it was a delayed race. I have been caught before on live races, but I always set manually for those.

I too was a little miffed at missing the end.

I did watch on TVU up to about the 50 laps to go and dropped of to sleep and then was hoping to watch the end on Channel 5 recording, as I messed up the pprecorder timings as well. Too much pre race chatting, race started 1 hour 15 after programme started.

Still at least we got to see the race, more than NASN did for any body.

Thanks Channel 5, and I did send an email to them as well.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!

LIVE NASCAR Nextel Cup returns to NASN on Sunday February 25th and will air on Setanta Sports Ireland (Sky Channel 434 in UK and 429 in ROI). Tune in at 8pm for all the exciting racing action from the Auto Club 500. Check back here on nasn.com for further announcements about additional motor sport programming on NASN.

Have been told the coverage will far exceed the quality that was before, hopefully better picture and surround sound ?

Also, been unable to uncancel my cancellation without a fee. Henry at NASN who took my call was an absolute STAR.

Oh yes, Sunday nights are back to normal, so lets fire up the 42" plasma, boogity boogity boogity, lets go racing boys !!!

This thread has been brilliant, thanks for all the advice, TVU, etc.

Aweseome thats just fantastic news.

Funny thing is i phoned NASN at 18.00 hrs today to cancel my subscription and the operator said it would be worth my while waiting just one more month as theres going to be an announcement made imminently,i didnt expect it to be as soon as this!!

I second that, this thread has been very helpfull with tvu etc. Hopefully we can still watch trucks and cup qualifying/practice on speed via tvu and then the race itself on NASN.

awesome news! - I also spoke to a Henry at Setanta - I also rang to cancel yesterday at about 2pm but he told me that due to the way my billing falls in the month it would be in my best interest to not cancel for a further few days as it wouldnt cost me any more money and implied that there would be an announcement soon so it would be worth waiting.

I do seem to be the only one that whilst excited - has noted it doesn't make any mention for the vegas race next week or any of the other 34 races this season??
I know thats pessimistic and if they have the rights to show one then probably they have the rights to show the rest but on that basis Five might have the rights as well as they showed daytona. Surely if they had the rights they'd just tell us?
Excuse my pessimism but the way things have been recently it comes naturally.
Fingers crossed its all good news - and I must add my thanks to this forum and those on it - because I got to see the 500, duals and shootout on TVU and record it on my pc all thanks to this forum and now will continue to watch some other NASCAR programming as well as Nextel Cup through this method that I havent had before!

So many thanks to all who helped

still a bit confused here. if disney/espn has bought nasn, who has the rights to show the races, nasn(disney) or setanta.

what worries me about the nasn website is that it steers clear of saying it is showing the remainder(because it has already started without them) of the season and also doesn't give details of the "additional motorsport".

i'm holding back for a while before recommitting.

i'd still like to see nasn as a stand alone channel with reduced subscription and not part of the setanta sports package.

Is there anyone out there who can understand Irish gibberish and translate for me? I have looked on the NASN web site and cannot work out what is going on with all these channel combinations. Apparently the race will be on NASN2 according to the TV guide and on Setanta Ireland on Sky according to another part of the web site. I am on Virgin cable and so it looks like I wil carry on saving money having cancelled my NASN sub after the debacle in October last year. At least TVU is still working.

Is Setanta Ireland one of those channels that stops at midnight?

Setanta Ireland is a 24 hour channel - during the night it broadcasts NASN2. This Sunday NASN 2 starts early - 8pm and runs through 8am - so 12 hours of NASN 2 plus 24 hours of NASN 1 - loads of sport :) It is the only channel you get the whole of NASN 2 on.

I've emailed NASN to see what they are up to.

If they come back and it looks promising, ie. the races are definitely going to be on NASN, and NASN ONLY, then I may subscribe.

However, given their track record, I'm pretty circumspect. I might just wait until all the uncertainty is cleared up over the ESPN sale.

Thanks for your email.

I can confirm that the NASCAR Nextel Cup will be broadcast on Setanta
Ireland (Sky channel 434 in the UK / channel 429 in Europe). It will be
presented on Setanta Irelands as a special primetime edition of NASN2.

As the negotiations have only recently concluded, we are still
confirming exact details and we will post these on the website as soon
as they are confirmed.

I hope that helps.

Just had an apologetically delayed reply to a message I sent NASN a couple of weeks ago, asking why i shouldn't cancel my sub. This seems to answer our worries.

"In response to your query, I am now pleased to inform you that we have confirmation that NASN will be broadcasting coverage of the NASCAR Nextel Cup series for the duration of the 2007 season. Our coverage will begin this Sunday with Race 2 of the season featuring the Auto Club 500 from California beginning at 8pm. why couldnt it be on another channel this week?? I doubt they will put it on NASN as countries in europe would be able to receive it and some countries now have a different channel who has the rights. Which begs the question of when ESPN do finally get NASN i assume they wont be able to show NASCAR unless they make NASN unavailable in the countries where NASCAR is now on another channel.

I emailed them last Thursday and no reply which is the norm for NASN when there is no good news.

The reason we get Busch and Nascar Now on NASN and not Cup is because the rights for Cup have been sold to other channels in some european countries that also receive NASN where as Busch and Nascar now havent.

Therefore in the UK they have to show Cup on a channel that these countries cant recieve, ie Setanta Ireland. I suspect the solution is going to be that Setanta Ireland will appear on Cable

"Thank you for contacting NASN - the only TV channel dedicated to North American sports in Europe. Please accept my apologies for the delay in response.

In response to your query, I can confirm that Virgin Media and DTT/Freeview customers will be able to see as-live coverage of the Nextel Cup Highlight Show, Busch Series Races and numerous episodes of NASCAR Now for the entire racing season. So you will be seeing lots of NASCAR programming. We understand it may be frustrating not to be able to see the Nextel Cup races live or as-live due to not being able to receive Setanta Sports Ireland as part of your service providers offerings. This is due to capacity and time slot limits placed on the Setanta Channels that appear on Virgin Media and DTT platforms.

NASN will constantly strive to accommodate customers programme wishes and should the opportunity arise to provide live or as-live races on the Virgin Media/DTT Platforms this will be announced in the first instance on our website http://www.nasn.com .

NASN apologise for any inconvenience to your viewing of the season so far and assure you that it is our every intention to resolve this as quickly as possible. I would like to thank you very much for your patience."

Been on hols so have missed the debate for a couple of weeks, but something is wrong here. The distribution on the cable platforms is much more controlled than on the Sky bird. You can only get the cable channels if you have a cable connection whereas the only thing stopping you from getting any of the Sky feeds across most of Europe and the Middle East is their encryption - and that is foolproof of course!!!! Thus if NASN/Setanta wanted to make sure they only meet their UK/Ireland remit, they should only have it on cable - or has my jet-lag caused me to miss a fundamental point here? I sense the dreaded hand of Mr Murdoch.

I used to be paranoid until I found out they are really trying to get me!!!!!

there is the little matter of being allowed to have a satellite dish which in some parts of this country is a heinous crime(mind you i'm looking out of my window at a block of flats and it's got dishes of varying sizes and colours all over the shop, some static, some tracking. if they were the same colour in a nice neat vertical line it would be more aesthetically acceptable)

Not quite true and this is where you spot Setanta's lies. Setanta Ireland is supposedly only on Sky and not Cable due to the fact that the transmission of Premiership football can be blocked out by sky but not by cable. This is achieved by post coding. So this is where Setanta Lie, they say that NASCAR can only be on Setanta Ireland to stop viewers in europe watching it. The question i asks is if you can block premiership football by post code then you can black NASCAR on NASN by post code too.

Its actually nothing to do with sky, you can get the Setanta sports package on Satelite without having Sky. I'm thinking of getting a second hand dish with a card and just getting Setanta on the dish and canceling my Setanta on cable. Its the same price for the same channels + setanta ireland. The only trouble is if NASN splits from Setanta with the ESPN purchase going on you might get landed with a 12 month contract on Setanta that you no longer want and cant get out off.

The atmosphere was unreal. To put it into perspective, just 10% of the crowd there would be a great start for SCSA (16,000).

I didn't have press pass. This was a simple holiday package (http://www.sportstravel.com). The NASCAR on Speed pictures was from NASCAR Raceday which was filmed and aired live from just outside the circuit literally in the car park. It was free to watch, you just had to get there early to be at the front.

NASN suddenly cut the NASCAR coverage at 11pm so that Sentanta Ireland could show a recording of Rugby. When I finally got through to Customer Services I was told it was NASCARs fault for over running. They apoligised which is not good enough. I will be emailing them and I hope other will as well.

you can bet your life that if there'd been a period of extra time or a penalty shootout in a football game they'd have found a way to stay with it.

They wont listen, they never do. NASN/Setanta are a joke, how can it be NASCARS fault that it rained???

TVU cut out quite a few times, not as good as it has been in past weeks but at least it was watchable and it didnt get cut at 11pm!

I was at Brands yesterday and Setanta were boasting over the commentary about how they are commited to bringing domestic and international motorsport to satellite and cable viewers and they would have more live coverage than other, satellite only, channels. What a crock!!! They even had a stand there although I didn't see it, too busy watching the racing.

Setanta are trying to grow too fast and cover sports they have no knowledge of. I still don't have access to NASN2 because I'm on cable so it's TVU for now!!

BTW: Touring cars were cracking, can't wait for the Rock meeting!

New season, same old tricks!

Glad I'm using TVU! I'm not paying a premium to watch the highlights on Virgin.

The picture was not as good as usual, but it was OK, and it was free!

From the NASN Website
We'll have every Nextel Cup race LIVE or AS LIVE on NASN 2 all season, including special Primetime Editions of NASN 2 on Setanta Sports Ireland, which is part of Setanta Sports Pack on Sky in UK/Ireland.

Same old sh1t then, which is why I haven't bothered re-subscribing...

Really, watching the TV coverage I thought they were a disgrace (race 3 a possible exception). More banger racing than touring car racing :\

I just posted this information in the NASCAR forum but it also applies to this thread. If you are having problems with TVU, make sure you have the ports it uses open in your router and firewall.

The ports TVU uses are:

3940, 3952, 3951, 3950: open for both UDP and TCP

3940 is the important one for viewing channels.

If you're having problems with the channel list, open port 8080 to UDP and TCP also

If this is new to you, http://portforward.com/ is a very good website which will tell you step by step how to open ports for your particular router and firewall.

Also, TVU released a new player on 30th March. Grab it from http://www.tvunetworks.com.

I've done all this, made sure I was signed in to the new player, and I'm watching SPEED (on Wheels) at 400kbps.

Thanks for the info Abo.

Presumably, those are incoming ports?
