A four day rally with 2 night stages!

They had 2 night stages on the Thursday this year but they only had a superspeciel on Sunday.

will there be snow stages in turini? i really hope so, rallying is car vs. nature. the fia have toned it down so much that it's boring to watch now. just gravel and more gravel...

they should stop cancelling stages due to snow or rain and let the show go on!

Thats pretty much up to the guy upstairs to decide if it's gona be snow ore not, the area they went to this year just to have a lot of snow in the past but not this year. Never heard of stages being cancelled due to snow ore definetly not rain, you must have confused it with F1 :D

[quote="Goldeye355"] the fia have toned it down so much that it's boring to watch now. just gravel and more gravel... quote]

Rally was born on gravel and belongs on gravel. two asphalts rallys each year are enough, asphalt rallys must be then smal and very technical and no racetrack like in Spain. If you want only speed go then to WTCC ore F1.
I am curious how Ireland will look forward to. This becomes maybe the most intresting asphalt rally in WRC for the future. I know that in many countries it is no longer possible only to have gravel stages, thats why they most have mixed surface. I mean real mixed surface with the same tyres and same suspension. That is real rally, this way it must be..back to the roots. :s mokin:

Josti

Asphalt has got just a big history as gravel BJ. Sure, nowadays gravel is more exciting than asphalt, but blame that on the cars.

Though I agree with you that the real small technical stages are missing in likes as Spain and Corsica (at least what I've seen from footage).

Monte 2008 looks interesting, can't believe they want to skip it for 2009.

Closing date for Entries is 20.12 (thursday)
Then we will see:
-How many Ford teams, who will drive in them
-Suzuki drivers
-Is there Subaru or Citroen B-team
-Private entries

Remember, there will be no JWRC or PWRC in Monte.

AndyRAC
3rd December 2007, 13:02
Good that Turini is back, all we need now is for it to be run at night and with snow. WRC needs to go back to its roots, not the sham it is at the moment.

I agree.

Sure, nowadays gravel is more exciting than asphalt, but blame that on the cars.

Here I disagree. Seeing WRC cars on small narrow streets in old cities is for me far more exiting that gravel rallies. Especially Monte Carlo and Tour de Corse are my favorites, but Ireland was a major bonus for me as well. I think Rally should be a equal amount of tarmac and gravel rallies.

PS: But Catalunya is awfull and Germany is so-so.

Roy
3rd December 2007, 13:48
Monte was a classic event, because the snow and ice ontarmac. Monte without snow/ice is the same as rally Catalunya... boring.

For sure, the image of a rallycar in a little village is always a nice sight. I was actually talking about how current WRCars act on asphalt surfaces, which isn't very exciting to watch anymore.

Maybe I haven't seen enough of the Corsica event this year, but it seems that most of the stages are run on much widther and smoother roads, then what I remember from the old Tour de Corse.

That's great news.

As far as I know Bozian only has one 307 left. The others are sold to other privateers (maybe that can be confirmed by Tom206WRC).

The one they have left is this one which is currently being driven by Patrick Henry.

I'd rather say v/d Heuvel first, who's much further in development. But cookie talk if you look at avalaible seats and the money that is required.

But back on topic. Would be great to see Delecour in Monte Carlo, let alone such a car being in good hands again. He didn't really left WRC in a way he deserved I think.

In fact, thursday, friday and saturday is 500 km away from Monte-Carlo. Biggest city there is Valence (south of Lyon).
Then Sunday is very close to Monte-Carlo.

Please note that Suzuki haven't been given any numbers yet, which must indicate that the Munchi's teams entry has yet to be decided. Munchi's was supposed to be running cars 9 & 10 and Suzuki 11 & 12.

It also looks bad regarding the PH-Sport team. I thought they were going to run an M2 team with two C4's, but now they have entered as a privateer with just one Xsara.

And no Ramsport entries aswell, so we might end up having only 5 teams this year .... which would be so much less than what was hoped for.

M2 teams dont have to do this round though. But even if PH Sport and Ramsport didnt register as M2 teams it doesnt mean they wont do a lot of events anyway. They can enter whatever events they want.

A bit early for doom and gloom just yet.

M2 teams/MT have to do 10 out of the 15 rallies, so they have untill the Sardinia Rally Italia to make it official. But then they have to go outside Europe and do New Zealand and Japan. It makes more sence (and make it cheaper?) just to do the 10 European rounds. So I hope that Aava can get his things with the FIA clear and make it a M2 team with Rautenbach.
It would be an easy paper thing to make one of the 3 full time Stobart drivers who is not nominated for Stobart enter under the Munchi's banner.

Van Merksteijn Motorsport , father and son Peter, are planning to do Rally Japan. There ambition is to do 8 WRC rallies.
Sweden / Jordan (!!) / Sardinia / Finland / Deutschland / Catalunya / Japan (!!) and Wales

Catalunya will be a bit of trouble finding a navigator, as Eddy Chevallier will be navigating for Duval. But the team is looking for a new co driver fo Peter jr.

I'll be cheering for Delecour that's for sure. He might make a stunt, just as he did in 1991. Then again, different times. It seems a certain Mr. Loeb is hard to beat on this rally, but heavy weather conditions might play a roll in this.

If you look on the FIA website where the manufacturers entry for MC are listed Giggi Galli has been allocated number 7. He is entered for all 15 rounds and nominated point scorer for Stobart on all rounds. Other Stobart drivers will be nominated on their strongest rounds, so I guess Henning for Sweden, Duval for tarmac etc.

Today is sunny and hot under direct sunlight, same for Turini.
Drove through the Turini stages a couple of days ago and from what i saw there will probably be little snow on the roads with the usual black ice patches if they haven't melted. They forecast a dry and sunny Sunday in the area.

Full stock of average quality snowballs in the forest above the road. Don't use them !

As for the rest of the rally in the Valence area : possible light showers on Thursday evening, overcast and damp on Friday, dry and partially sunny on Saturday.
Will of course be fine tuned over the days.

I'm sorry but people are reading too much into things without really thinking. Conrad doesn't need sponsors because he has money behind him. Ford needs sponsors because Ford is in financial trouble and can't finance M-Sport to the extent that Citroen does.

Shakedown starts in 7 minutes!! That is for the priority 1 drivers (i.e nominated manufacturer entries)

That is from 8:00am to 10:00am (local Monaco time)

Then priority 2 drivers (all non-nominated manufacturer entries i.e. Al Qassimi, H. Solberg, Wilson, Cuoq etc.) and other drivers as well as the priority one drivers can do shakedown from 10am to 12pm :)

Hello to everyone
i wish to have a good championship with close fights and
i hope that subaru will be strong.

does anyone know where or in which site
can we see the split times this year ?
because there is not split section in the new official wrc page

The site I used to use was worldrallynews.com but this is inactive now as it was supported by BF Goodrich. I think we might be living without splits but RallyRadio usually talks about splits for the top drivers

That is the advantage of being filthy rich

you might be interested to know that, whilst Conrad does have a wealthy family supporting him, there is also cash coming in from other commercial sponsors. However there seems to be a bit of confusion with Citroen about what he can or cannot run on his car. This should all be cleared up in the next round or two.

Oh, and a bit of support chaps, he does work bloody hard at his rallying!

If your goal to score some points you need good times only it is shakedown. The season is not over yet, but these times are really bad.

I was fear of this. I know how Japanese business works. Once I works for Asics. Only Japanese people in the important jobs and don't have critism them. No, they know it better.
Suzuki the same. Quit all the European people and go further with their people. The nationalism is more important... not the knowledge of the people.
