Burney Lamar, former Kevin Harvick Inc. Busch driver, was at Martinsville. He revealed that he plans to attempt to make the Nextel Cup field at Atlanta next week with an independent team. Lamar’s most memorable achievement to date was his second-place finish at for KHI at Daytona in 2006.

Hope this is true and that he makes the race. He's a good driver who got canned from KHI last year thanks to sponsor Dollar General wanting a Cup driver.

Good luck to him.

Wonder who's that independent owner. Kevin Lepage or Kirk Shelmerdine? :p
Guess it's maybe an ARCA team who's already got hold of a this years Cup car? Why else would an independent team make a debut on the third to last COY race. :s

Burney Lamar is in the E&M Motorsports #08 Dodge (John Carter = team owner)..... :s
(We are talking about a really low budget team here)
5 drivers will be going home & I expect Burney Lamar will be one of them ! http://www.motorsportforum.com/forums/images/icons/tongue-anim.gif

Why is it that those really low budget teams drive a Dodge? Is Dodge cheaper than other makes or what?

John Carter? Is that the owner of #37 too IIRC?

edit: seems that John Carter had sold the #37 after 2006 or something.

But tbh I don't really care much anyway. :p

Yes Front Row and BAM both run Dodges. Well Joe Nemechek made a race with that team so Burney might have a slight chance.

Hornish must be real bad driver if he can't even qualify a Penske car. :\

Sam Hornish Jr has proven that he IS a talented driver.
Even though Penske builds a good Nextel Cup car, not just anyone could drive it fast.

Sam Hornish Jr has the same problem that Jacques Villeneuve, Dario Franchitti & Patrick Carpentier have.
LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN DRIVING A STOCKCAR !!!
Driving a stockcar isn't learned overnight, it takes seat-time ...
that is why drivers should start in a lower series to learn FIRST.
==============================================

now back on topic .....
As to Burney Lamar, his failure to qualify was because he was in JUNK !
It is good for Burney that he didn't qualify the JUNK car ...
because the failure of the JUNK CAR to be competitive would have looked bad for him.
A good team needs to give Burney Lamar a shot, he might surprise them. :D

Burney Lamar was also a DNQ @ Texas, that makes 2 races MISSED in a row. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/orn/jo.gif

There will be 1 less caution now in the Texas race with Burney Lamar NOT in it ... http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/orn/w2.gif

Why is he even trying in that bundle of junk? These DNQs surely aren't doing him any favours. Wouldn't it be wiser to get a few Busch starts or drive a season in Truck?
