This is usually the best way to get over the end-of-season depression - and the 2007 DVD is out in a months time (19th November).

Just thought I'd give you all a quick heads up to let everyone know it's only £10.99 if you pre-order it from the HMV website (not seen it this cheap ever before)!

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=717794

Unless you want to wait until christmas (not sure I can)!

ATF

Why Alfa Fan - have you got it off Duke? They always have it at top price!!

I have bought it from play.com in the past for about £15, I couldn't believe it was so cheap this year - that's why I've pre-ordered it just in case they decide to put the price up! Even if it's a week later, I'll still want it before Christmas! ;)

Duke for 20 quid! And they're the ones who make it... how does that work?
For your interest, the cover has SEAT on it, which is odd because a Vauxhall won the championship. In previous years, the championship-winning car has always been on the cover!

Seat are slowly taking over the btcc- first they paid for a corner to be named after themselves, now they've paid for the cover of the review :p :

Alfa Fan
21st October 2007, 23:43
SEAT won't be on the cover! Duke obviously jumped the gun and got out a pre-release image for catalogues to use. Giovanardi's Vectra will defintely be on the cover. Last year, the picture of Neal's Integra that was used chaged from the first picture to the release version.

Obviously Duke thought that Jason would win ...

MattSmith
22nd October 2007, 18:52
They probably had no idea when the original publicity stuff was printed so put the car that was leading the championship at the time on the front.

Hopefully they'll have enough time to go with tradition though

Still not very happy with it. In the past, only the winning car was the focus of the cover, whereas both appear on this one.

nicemms

Maybe its to reflect that it was very tight championship and that either one of them could have won it it.

Alfa Fan
29th October 2007, 19:26
But Giovanardi did and Plato didn't, its that simple. Previous years have been closer (2004!?) but only the winner appeared on the cover (Thompson - who won by a point!)

Get a life. They could stick a picture of a fan on the front but it won't change the dvd or who won.

I fail to see how the cover should ruin the actual DVD itself.
I think it looks pretty good personally.

Still looks like the Vectra is the main Focus.

As has been pointed out before, Plato was actually on the 1997 cover!

As long as it's a good review, I don't care! Duke made last year's BSB review into a 6 hours on 2 discs (previously 3 hours/1 disc), although it was very cheaply made and not the best quality.

But the 2006 BTCC review was a big improvement on previous years so hopefully this one won't be a disappointment!

In addition to that, the 1992 review i have has Will Hoy's 1991 BMW M3 on the cover.

Also, the 1988 & 1989 BTCC reviews have Andy Rouse on the cover when he wasn't the champion (was the Class A winner those years though), though that was more to do with the fact Kaliber was a sponsor of the video i guess.

In response to why it's so long, it probably IS cheaper to stick more coverage on than go through editing the races too much - although that wouldn't make for such a good "review". Will wait and see though...

It'll be the first review tape I've got since the mid to late 90's. Cracking season, who cares if JP is on the cover he is behind Gio and that clearly reflects the seasons final battle. If it is 7 hours I think I could be in trouble with my mum, Staying with her for Christmas, Oh she'll be chuffed to bits being forced to watch it. Don't think the wife will be to interested although she loved the final three races of the season. Totally impartial as she is she flet Plato was given a raw deal by Neal. (start the bashing now!!!!) I'm not gonna comment on it!!! We all have our opinions. Just some of us are right...kidding.

Once met a girl who claimed to be a cousin of Gary Parffet and she said every Christmas they had to watch his season review tapes. I couldn't see what was wrong with that!!!???? Oh and she was fit, so Gary if your cousin is still single......lol

Doesn't really matter for me. I am getting other tintop stuff.

I am getting the 2007 Touring Car World book and another, an older book, that was bought for me from a charity shop in Ulverston when I was on holiday back in October.

This older book is about loads of stuff from really ancient seasons.

I am really looking forward to reading about all the really old seasons and finally finding about this Super Touring era aswell as all the old guys like Rob Gravett.

Apologies, I meant the "final" race, i.e. round 30 as it was the title decider. Each race is cut according to how much action there is; some less exciting ones will only be around 7 mins, others will be 15mins or so.

I expected the new 2 disc format to be because they have decided to put all 30 rounds on Disc 1 and place on Disc 2 Bonus Features (Not that I have seen Disc 2 yet. I will once I finish seeing the end of Croft).

I wonder if they will ever start. Would be good. They could do lots. To have behind-the-scenes footage at teams as they build and/or prepare their cars perhaps or to have something on the history.

Watching this DVD makes me really miss the old 90s one where there was perfect transition between clips of action.

Need to drop the lap counter, just makes it obvious when it's jumping about, and get someone like Steve Rider to voice over the races - cutting into the original commentry when possible.

Need to drop the lap counter, just makes it obvious when it's jumping about, and get someone like Steve Rider to voice over the races - cutting into the original commentry when possible.

I hate after-the-event commentaries - i will always take the original. The after-the-event ones completely lose any excitement.

Alfa Fan
23rd January 2008, 14:39
It works really well, the commentator in between the live stuff can add info about what happened in the laps missed out.

Like for example, the DVD shows the start of the race and the first few laps, then cutting to lap 5/6 (say). As it makes the transition, cut from the original commentry to someone like Steve Rider "over the next few laps Cleland closed in on Menu's Renault, and by the end of lap 5 they were nose-to-tail" before cutting back to original commentry.

And for some of the less interesting races, just a simple voice-over would do!

Just watched disc 1, the commentating is so strange of noise, just like they are sitting in a room with all echo's.....even when they do the commentating on the grid the echo's are still there.
Strange...

Not impressed with the treatment of Turkington's exclusion at Snetterton. It's not even mentioned!! (apart from in the grid for Race 2)

Indeed. This is why a 'presenter' of the DVD, able to link each race together, would have been a huge improvement.

(Oh, and there are still 'rogue' copies with two disc 2s out there, like mine...)

Well, I finished the DVD yesterday and I guess I'm not really allowed to complain when Duke gave us 7 hours of footage... BUT... there really aren't many interviews at all. I think there were 2 on disk 1 and 2 on disk 2. Also, having a narrator would be oh so useful!

Apart from that, the editing was pretty good and it captured most of the important moments.
