You're completely right. That's what happens when you let the Japanese loose with a 350z and tell them to make it into a Skyline GTR.

its just GT-R now, its no longer part of the Skyline range. and the first concept was shown in 2001, before the 350z

I dont like the V6 engine, the RB26DETT I6 was what made the GT-R what it was

The whole point of the GTR is kind of all but gone now. The original GTR was virtually built as a purpose Group A car to go touring car racing with, but Group A for all intents and purposes is dead.

I think that the car has suffered the same sort of bloat at the Evo X. Neither car fulfils its original purpose anymore and consequently they've both filled out beyond that purpose.

My mistake. It still looks like a 350z.

I don't find it that ugly, I expect it to grow on me.

I agree with you, it does look like the 350z, its just that I think its a general design look from the company not a rip-off

Guys, stop letting the old skyline hold your thought. As ppl rightly said this is just a GT-R and is not in the skyline range anymore. This car is now built for competing with the exotics ans that's why it now uses a V6 engine, instead of inline, with 450BHP! You have to treat this car like a supercar and justify it like a supercar. Look at the aero design which is not saloon shaped like the old skyline, look at the gallardo spyder-ish front like and the enzo-ish bonnet vents, the bugatti veyron-ish rear. Check out the F430-ish steering wheel and the chevrolet ZO6-ish speedometer. The car is now semi-automatic like the M5. Personally I don't like supercars that much and it is a shame that it has lost the tradition from the old skyline, but look at it like a supercar, it's getting there.

I'm sorry but exotic and V6 just don't go together. Perhaps in the USA but not in the rest of the world.

It also looks nothing like any of the cars you say it looks like :mark:

Now now, there a plenty of exotic V6's from europe and the UK.

Exotic has to have a V8 at the minimum ;)

Its not ugly. A Toyota Landcruiser is bloody ugly.

To me the new GTR looks a bit like a NSX and a Maseratti sandwiched together.

Most V8's sound like motors that can't run right. To me you can't beat the sound of a smooth six with forced induction.

So you don't think this is exotic?
