Mitsubishi will run their newly debuted Lancer Evo X as the 0 and 00 cars in Rally Japan this year. The vehicle is of course fitted with all necessary modifications as a Gr N car would have. Mitsubishi is also in the process of preparing for a Gr N homologation of the vehicle in 2008.

.. But the question is, when are they going to come back in the WRC as a manufacturer's team?

The new "X" is a fine looking car. But I guess that Mitsubishi wont build a new WRC car since they will destroy the all the old ones. I guess that they are not willing to spend big bucks to develop another WRC. :mark:

S2000 would be my best guess.

Nice looking car, IMO a lot better then Subaru.

BTW Woodeye, I agree with you, but I don't like the term S2000 when it comes to the first league cars in WRC. If they are based on S2000, that's fine, but IMO we should still call them WRCars, WRCar Evo2 .......... maybe :)

Why would they need an S2000? If you see that every Evo is faster than the previous, the Evo X is maybe enough for the smaller budget!!

Yes, I know. But one day in the future when the top drivers are driving upgraded versions of S2000, how are we going to call these cars, WRCar, or S2000, or something else?

Agreed, if this car is a step forward from the IX it will be up with the S2000s anyhow

The VRX and it's two lower spec siblings are on the showroom floor in NZ already and it is a damn nice looking car. Like to think Mitsi will be back in WRC again one day soon but even if it isn't as soon as the first Evo X arrive here in November the locals will have them into the shop to be stripped and made rally ready. If Ralliart is already making parts for them then we'll see one in a local event within months. I can think of a few drivers who could put one to good use.

I hope they turn it into a proper rally car and yes it looks much better than the Subaru.

I think Jasper van den Heuvel and the other KNAFdrivers drive Evo X as soon as possible. The Mitsubishi EVO X look nicer for me then new Subaru.

Without technical specs or comparison to other cars I don't see how you can say that?

The car is 4495 mm long. Well, it is less than I thought to be (I thought it was the same length as new passanger 7G Lancer) but still more than previous one. It is also wider and higher. But ok, I was wrong it is not as much.

I know what you meen. I've seen the the car (cheaper models are available in Canada), and I can confirm that the first impression is a lot bigger car, but it's not.

Nothing to do with MMSP.

Oh really? Well Mitsubishi must be lying then:

"The Lancer Evolution X will run on Rally Japan in Group N specification and include various new features that have been developed in close collaboration between the Motor Sport Division / Technical Development Department of Mitsubishi Motors and Ralliart Inc."

From what I can gather that it is just the Japanese Ralliart side of things are looking after the car at the moment especially after Mr.Easton (from my understanding) verbally agreeing to take over MMSP, Rugby UK and continue with the WR05 Lancers and then eventually branch out into doing the Group N cars aswell..

What's the source for the info? Me, I'm just relaying what was Officially published. MMSP is Mitsubishi Motors Motorsports. It does not speak of any specific company, although from what I understand too, that MMSP has an outfit at Rugby, and also in Trebur. I was using the acronym MMSP to connote Mitsubishi Motors Motorsports (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Motors_Motor_Sports), and I was not at all referring to whatever branch. If Mitsubishi has a Motorsports branch in Germany, I'm pretty sure they have one in Japan too.

About a "takeover"
http://www.wrc.com/page/News/BreakingNewsDetail/0,,10111~1117053,00.html

Assuming this story (quoted below) on: http://www.rallynews.net/News/News07/Oct07/irishnotes24.10.html
is somewhat correct it implies that a buyout/takeover of MMSP in Rugby has happened..

"Andrew (Nesbitt) is well down the road to getting his deal together to drive a full Mitsubishi WRC on Rally Ireland, and if it all comes together will be pretty special."

Although since that being published on Wensday, c4 has posted that Mr.Nesbitt may well be changing to a Subaru..

I do not know myself if the Rubgy base has been taken over or not

...but the confusion on here may be just stemming from "MMSP" on this forum (in my opinion [incorrectly or not]) being taken to mean the base in Rugby that looked after the WRC programme not any of the other bases that deal with other activities like the Dakar and such..

MMSP may well have looked after the Evo X thats running this weekend but not the MMSP that might be automatically thought of by users of this forum.

Hope this might clear things up a bit.

:)
