View Full Version : How did you choose your screen name?

Alexamateo

I saw this on another forum where I post and thought it would be a good idea for a thread.

I know some like "Mark" will be obvious, but then again you never know just what the true story might be.

Since it's my question, I'll start. Alexa and Mateo are my children's names (ages 3 and 1) and it just seemed natural to use there names when it came to picking mine.

I just fancied a change from what I had previously, and thought a drag racing related name would last a while longer than most. :)

Julia Fox
8th October 2007, 07:13
When my hair started to turn grey I thought being called Silverfox was a bit better than just being referred to as that old bloke.
Then when I started my transition into changing gender I took my female first name and kept the fox in case anyone from the dim distant past of this forum actually remembered me.

Sounds like old Julia quite fancied a change too mate.

PS don't mention "drag" racing you insensitive neanderthal swine

My real name was already taken so I chose the name a friend, for no apparent reason, decided to give me some years ago. Besides it was the first time I registered into a forum and I could not think of a better nick.

Hondo

It was the only thing I could spell at the time.

If we went by that logic I'd be Hooty McBoobs :mark:

I was originally 306 Maxi (or 48798473929863 Maxi as Tomi prefers to say)
Named after this

Facinating thread.

When I first registered on the forum when it was in the old home of btccpages.com I was known as MGFreak because I supported WSR right until the start of the 2005 Croft meeting (when it was just Rob Collard and before RAC came along) when I decided to change alliegance to SEAT.

A little while later a member wondered in a post why I supported SEAT when I had MGFreak as my name. That was a good point with me. So I asked wor' Mark to change my name.

And here I am now. Pestering and making a nuisance of myself with the best of em'!! :cheese:

Caroline
8th October 2007, 17:04
I was coerced into a change. :p : Apparently Caroline sounds much nicer than Carrie. But then again, nobody has called me Carrie in a very long time so I guess it just doesn't sound right anymore.

My name is Martin, and it is fairly common in Argentina (from Basque tradition) to call a Martin, "Tincho" (from "Martincho").

And "Tinchote" would be a big Tincho :D

(There's a deja-vu feeling to this. We probably did this a few years ago :) )

Car-oline sounds a bit like Gas-oline, so it's appropriate for a motorsports forum.

Not really. As far as I can tell, they don't rhyme. Or do they in British English?

Mintexmemory
8th October 2007, 20:36
When Britain had 6 international rallies every year the Mintex was the English event held in the North Yorkshire Forests, usually in snowy conditions. Access to the Forests was free and pubs on the Thirsk - Scarborough road warm and welcoming. It seemed a time when the drivers were more heroic and the thrill of spectating better

I used this name when I joined a music forum a couple years ago, my favourit band at the time was Dream Theater, and the name comes from one of their best songs: Metropolis part 1: The Miracle and the SLEEPER. The Miracle was already taken, and I just started using this everywere.

Hawkmoon
9th October 2007, 03:12
I pinched mine from a novel by Michael Moorecock. Just liked the sound of it I guess.

gadjo_dilo
9th October 2007, 09:01
I think we already had a similar topic, but anway....
Some would probably wonder that a gipsy hater picked a romany name.
I've heard about a french movie with excellent reviews and its title is Gadjo dilo. In romany it means crazy stranger ( stranger with the sense of intruder ) and it matches perfectly my presence on this forum. Isn't it crazy to intrude on a motorsport forum when you haven't any interest in cars?

Unforunately I haven't seen that movie yet.

airshifter
9th October 2007, 15:10
I just had to come up with something related to F1, as that was my reason for joining the forums.

It's somewhat dual meaning, referring to both pneumatic shifters found in cars many years back, and the fact that Formula 1 relies so heavy on aerodynamics, thus "shifting" the airflow.

I picked this name to make me sound more colourful and interesting........my real name is Randy Starshagger! (with apopogies to Mark Thomas.)

Mp3 Astra
9th October 2007, 22:44
My initials being MP, and MP3 being an audio format, my forename was indeed a fore-gone conclusion. However, my surname was never meant to exist. I joined the forum 2 years ago in the hope of discussing the BTCC (I didn't realise that there was more than the BTCC on this forum), so I thought I'd choose a BTCC themed name to make people take me seriously (don't ask). Astra. It was the only one that seemed to make sense (even though the car is now defunct) and it has stuck forever. All my online names are Mp3 Astra. That's the long and short of (the very boring) it!
