View Full Version : Scott Riggs to Haas #66 in 2008

It looks like Scott Riggs will be next in line to take over the #66 Chevy at Haas CNC Racing. The team and Riggs are in serious discussion and the speculation is that the announcement may happen 'within days'. Riggs future with Gillett Evernham was on shaky ground to begin with, but with the appearance of Canadian Patrick Carpentier to take over the #10 for next year, Riggs future at Gillett Evernham was doomed.

Wonder what will happen to Jeff Green.

I find it unbelievable that Riggs can get a drive anywhere in the Nextel Cup series in 2008. He has never shown himself to be good enough for Nextel Cup and yet keeps getting good drives. He took MBV Racing backwards after they had Johnny Benson and has done a pathetic job at Evernham.
I think Jeff Green (not a driver I particularly like) has done a reasonable job at Haas Racing but surely there are better alternatives available. The likes of Joe Nemechek, Sterling Marlin, Jeremy Mayfield, Johnny Benson and Mike and Kenny Wallace would all do a far better job than Riggs.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/orn/ha.gif Jeff Green will go back to the Busch Series (or whatever it is called next year) ..... http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/orn/00.gif

The other Haas driver, Johnny Sauter had better watch out, he is 2 places behind Jeff Green in Owner's Points. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/erm/uhoh.gif

When you look at Haas vs Evernham in cars & engines I'll give a slight advantage to Evernham ...
Scott Riggs will be going to a team with lesser equipment imo. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/erm/7.gif

I don't think Scott Riggs is that bad. He only dropped outside the Top 35 because he had so many engine failures at the start of the season. He was quite good last year when Evernham had their act together.

Scott Riggs showed a lot of talent in the Truck Series ...
I guess he just hasn't hit on the right combination in Cup racing yet ... :s

I couldn't care less where Jeff Green goes. I hope Scott gets the ride.

I think Scott Riggs is a Jason Leffler-type...good in Truck and Busch, but just doesn't have the stuff for Cup. I feel the same way about Jeff Green. Honestly, I don't care where either go, as they'll always underperform, IMO.

Well it's comfirmed that Riggs is going to Haas CNC Racing, but there is still no decision on which car he will be driving and who his team-mate will be.

Green is 45 & about 16 years older than Sauter, I think that will weigh in on the decision. Also none of the sponsors are signed for next year yet, which ones stick around will probably have a bit of influence too.

Riggs is a good driver, hes is just on the short end of the stick at Evernham. they have been pants all year and Riggs hasnt even had a chance to get the momentom needed to compete. i thinks its kind of funny because a few times last year he showed what he could do and for a couple of weeks the media gave him a pat on the back, then he didnt make races. and hes been forgotten.

Personally i think hes a casualty of the "Evernham boning the development driver program"

Jayski's silly season page says that Johnny Sauter is out and that Jeff Green has announced that he will not return with the team. David Stremme and Scott Riggs will likely be the drivers next year.

I hope Johnny stays. He ran well at Dega.

Johnny is the type of driver that will take a 10th place car and drive it to 20th. He has done it time and time again. He isn't even good enough for Busch (for want of a better name). He will be canned for sure.

Read the article 'Sauter in Limbo for 2008:';

http://www.jayski.com/teams/70.htm

This sounds like it could be interesting if Johnny goes to Robby Gordon Motorsports, IF it happens.

Article 'Jeff Green Back with Haas?';

Sounds like Jeff thinks he's staying with Haas.

I think Haas is playing the "sweat for your job" game. Either one could go. Green isn't cut out for Cup. He's better suited for the Trucks at this point in his career. Sauter's a hot head in bad equipment. He might knock off a top 10 on occasion in better equipment, but that's about it. Rumor is that Robby G wants to pick him up if he can bring the sponsor with him. Expect the same or worse from him in 08.

So Mayfield will take over the #66 at Atlanta then? I'm guessing Villeneuve will run the #36 in preparation for next season.

Nope not Villeneuve, it'll be Skinner and Benson according to NASCAR.com

Yep, it will be Benson & Skinner in the BDR #36 Toyota.
I even started a thread about it, "2 CTS drivers called to Nextel Cup".

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/n.jpg

Jeremy Mayfield jumped from the driver's seat of the #36 BDR Nextel Cup Toyota
to the driver's seat of the Haas #66 Chevrolet upon Jeff Green's dismissal.

With 4 races left in the 2007 Nextel Cup season ...
Bill Davis Racing has called upon their Truck Series drivers to take-up the slack :
Mike Skinner will drive the #36 BDR Nextel Cup Toyota @ Atlanta & Texas. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/thum/1u.gif
Johnny Benson Jr will drive the #36 BDR Nextel Cup Toyota @ Phoenix & Homestead. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g202/gr8link/thum/1u.gif

Yep I notice that you had after I posted it here. My bad. That'll teach me, I'll just have to remember to read the threads before I post anything.

It's still good though :up: it'll be interesting to see how well they do.

I didn't know where else to put it and I didn't feel like making a new thread about it;

Carpentier takes over the #10 from Phoenix probably to get a bit of a head start in development.
